Planning your trip from the United States
Getting there
Direct flights from major US hubs (JFK, LAX, ORD, MIA, ATL) reach Rome, Milan, Paris, Barcelona and Lisbon in 7–10 hours. Budget airlines and shoulder-season fares make spring and autumn trips surprisingly affordable.
Best time to go
April–June and September–October offer the best cycling weather: warm but not scorching, with fewer crowds and lower hotel rates than July–August. Southern destinations (Puglia, Sardinia, Algarve) extend the season into late October.
Visa & entry
US citizens do not need a visa for stays under 90 days in the EU/Schengen area. A valid passport (expiring no sooner than 3 months after your trip) is sufficient. ETIAS pre-authorization may be required starting 2026 — check the latest status before you travel.
Currency & payments
The Euro (EUR) is used across most destinations. Credit cards are widely accepted; contactless payments (Apple Pay, Google Pay) work almost everywhere. ATMs are available in all towns along our routes.

Frequently asked questions
How do I get to the tour starting point from the US?+
Fly into the nearest international airport listed on the tour page — most tours start near a major city with direct US flights (Rome, Milan, Barcelona, Lisbon, Dubrovnik). From the airport, trains or pre-arranged transfers take you to the starting hotel. We provide detailed arrival instructions with your travel pack.
Are prices in USD or EUR?+
All prices are listed in Euros (EUR). At current exchange rates, 1 EUR is roughly equal to 1 USD. Your credit card will convert at the daily rate when you pay.
Do I need a visa to cycle in Europe?+
US citizens can travel to EU/Schengen countries for up to 90 days without a visa. You only need a valid passport. The upcoming ETIAS travel authorization (similar to the US ESTA) may apply starting in 2026 — check the official EU site before booking.
What about jet lag?+
Europe is 5–9 hours ahead of the US depending on your time zone. We recommend arriving a day before your tour starts to adjust. Many of our tours begin in cities worth exploring — spend your first day sightseeing on foot, and you will be ready to ride the next morning.
Can I rent a bike or should I bring my own?+
Bike rental is available on most tours (road bikes, hybrid bikes, and e-bikes). Bringing your own bike is possible but adds complexity with airline bike boxes and transfers. Most American travelers rent locally — the bikes are high quality and properly fitted.
Is travel insurance required?+
We strongly recommend travel insurance that covers trip cancellation, medical expenses abroad, and repatriation. US health insurance typically does not cover medical costs in Europe. Many policies also cover bike theft and flight delays.
