Explore the Umbrian Valley on this 5-day self-guided cycling tour from Assisi. Ride to Spoleto, climb to the hilltop vineyards of Montefalco and loop back through Bevagna — a moderately challenging route through Italy's green heart.

Tour Program

Day 1: Assisi
You will arrive in Assisi, a stunning medieval city perched on the slopes of Monte Subasio. After a briefing and bike fitting, you will have time to wander through the narrow streets, visit the Basilica of San Francesco and enjoy the panoramic views across the valley below.

Day 2: Assisi – Spoleto (53 km; +326 m / –338 m)
This morning you will have time to explore the flower-filled alleys of Spello and admire the Pinturicchio masterpiece in the Chiesa di Santa Maria Maggiore. The route continues through the Valle di Spoleto, passing Foligno on mainly flat roads. You will arrive in Spoleto, a city of culture perched on its hill and enclosed by medieval walls, famous for the Festival dei Due Mondi.

Day 3: Spoleto – Montefalco (30 km; +472 m / –338 m)
You will pedal through a hilly landscape of vineyards and fields, with Montefalco visible from afar on its hilltop. A climb rewards you with the town known as the “Balcony of Umbria” for its spectacular panoramic views. Montefalco is celebrated for its wines — the Rosso di Montefalco DOC and the prized Sagrantino DOCG, produced on the sun-drenched slopes surrounding the town.

Day 4: Montefalco – Assisi (44 km; +342 m / –500 m)
A fine descent brings you to Bevagna, whose main square with twin Romanesque churches and the medieval town hall is one of the most harmonious in Umbria. From Bevagna you will follow a cycle path, with the option of a longer route through the countryside past the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli, sheltering the tiny Porziuncola where Saint Francis prayed. The shorter route follows the Assisi–Spoleto cycle path directly. Either way, you will catch beautiful views of Assisi rising on the hillside ahead.
