A Journey Through the Umbrian Valley: 8-Day Cycling Tour

Day 1: Assisi
You will arrive in Assisi, a magnificent medieval city on the slopes of Monte Subasio. After settling in, an evening briefing and bike fitting will prepare you for the days ahead. Explore the narrow lanes, visit the Basilica of San Francesco and take in the sweeping views over the fertile valley below.

Day 2: Assisi – Casco dell'Acqua (26 km; +166 m / –329 m)
Your first ride carries you to the Roman-founded town of Spello, where the impressive Porta Venere and the Pinturicchio frescoes in the Chiesa di Santa Maria Maggiore await. From here, flat roads wind through the Umbrian Valley between rivers, canals and fields to your country house at Casco dell'Acqua, an eco-friendly retreat with a saltwater pool.

Day 3: Casco dell'Acqua – Spoleto – Casco dell'Acqua (51 km; +292 m / –292 m)
Today's loop leads you through olive groves to Spoleto, a welcoming city rich in restaurants and artisan shops. The medieval centre, perched on its hill, holds treasures at every turn: the cathedral, the Ponte delle Torri, the Rocca, a Roman house and the archaeological museum. After your visit, you will pedal back through the valley to your country house.

Day 4: Casco dell'Acqua – Bevagna (26 km; +290 m / –284 m)
You will cross the valley with the option of climbing to Montefalco, known as the “Balcony of Umbria” for its magnificent panoramic views and prized Sagrantino wine. Then descend to Bevagna, whose splendid piazza with a fountain and twin Romanesque churches creates one of the most harmonious squares in the region. A shorter, flatter route bypasses Montefalco if you prefer an easier day.

Day 5: Bevagna – Torgiano (28 km; +151 m / –147 m)
You will pedal along vineyards and canals to Torgiano, set on a hill at the confluence of the Tiber and Chiascio. This fertile land produced Umbria's first DOC wine zone. Do not miss the privately founded Wine Museum in Palazzo Graziani-Baglioni, tracing centuries of winemaking through archaeological finds and fine art.

Day 6: Torgiano – Perugia – Torgiano (32 km; +400 m / –442 m)
Today offers two loop options. The first climbs to Perugia, the regional capital, where Renaissance palaces, medieval churches and the vibrant Corso Vannucci await. The second explores the countryside around Deruta, world-famous for its hand-painted ceramics, and the votive-tile sanctuary of Madonna dei Bagni.

Day 7: Torgiano – Assisi (25 km; +251 m / –54 m)
Your final ride crosses the valley on quiet lanes. From afar you will see Assisi rising on the hillside — a short climb brings you back to the city where your journey began.

After breakfast your tour comes to an end.
