Short Description

Cycle through the heart of Umbria on this 4-day self-guided tour starting and ending in Spello. You will pedal past vineyards, Roman towns, and hilltop cities including Assisi, Bevagna, and Torgiano — all on mostly flat terrain through one of Italy's finest wine regions.

Tour Program

Day 1: Arrival in Spello
Your tour begins in the flower-adorned town of Spello. You will settle into your hotel in the historic centre, where a terrace offers sweeping views over the entire Umbrian Valley. Take the afternoon to wander the narrow lanes and soak in the atmosphere of this enchanting hillside town.

Day 2: Spello – Torgiano (52 km; +215m/−294m)
After a morning exploring Spello's frescoed chapels and medieval gates, you will set off across the valley floor. The route is almost entirely flat, threading through olive groves and vineyards. You will pass through Foligno and then reach Bevagna, a beautifully preserved Roman town with an intimate central piazza. From Bevagna, a short ride through the wine country brings you to Torgiano, a quiet hilltop borgo at the confluence of the Chiascio and Tevere rivers. The surrounding hills produce the renowned Rosso Riserva D.O.C.G., and the prestigious Wine Museum in Palazzo Graziani-Baglioni is well worth a visit.

Day 3: Torgiano – Spello via Assisi (33 km; +398m/−320m)
Today you will cross the valley on peaceful country lanes to reach Assisi. The climb to the old town is short but rewarding — once at the top, the Basilica of San Francesco and the panoramic views will take your breath away. Leaving Assisi, you will descend gently through silver-green olive groves back to Spello, completing the loop.

Day 4: End of tour
After breakfast, your journey comes to an end. Depart at your leisure.
