What bikes are available?

Trekking bikes (€90) and e-bikes (€200) can be rented for the full duration. Bikes are ready at your hotel on the first day.

Can I get back to Gunzenhausen from Regensburg?

Yes. A return by bus is available every Saturday (whole season) and additionally on Fridays in June and September, for €45 per person. On remaining days, a return by regional train is available for €25 per person (from 9 a.m., 2–3 connections).

What type of accommodation is included?

You will stay in good 3-star and 4-star hotels with daily breakfast buffet. Half-board (5 evenings, 3-course dinner) is available as a supplement for €139.

What are the departure days?

Arrivals are possible from Friday to Monday between 1 May and 26 September 2026.

Short Description

Ride from the Altmühl Lakes to UNESCO Regensburg over 6 days and 5 nights. Follow the car-free Altmühl cycle path through the Franconian nature park, past medieval towns and Roman forts, to the Danube. From €419 pp.

Tour Program

Day 1: Arrival in Gunzenhausen
You will arrive in Gunzenhausen at the edge of the Altmühl Lakes. Your rental bike (if booked) is ready at the hotel, and a free, unguarded public car park sits close to the bike rental station. Overnight in a 4-star superior hotel.

Day 2: Gunzenhausen – Wettelsheim/Weissenburg (46 km)
You will ride to Weißenburg, where the impressive Ellinger Tor — one of southern Germany's most beautiful city gates — awaits. Along the way you will pass the Karlsgraben, Charlemagne's ambitious attempt to connect the Danube and the Rhine. You will continue to Wettelsheim or Treuchtlingen. Overnight in a 3-star hotel.

Day 3: Wettelsheim/Weissenburg – Eichstätt (50 km)
Following the river's many loops, you will cycle to the bishop's town of Eichstätt, with its residence, cathedral and the imposing Willibaldsburg fortress. Overnight in a 3-star hotel.

Day 4: Eichstätt – Riedenburg/Meihern (64 km)
You will ride through the heart of the nature park, past the Roman fort at Pfünz, via Arnsberg and Beilngries to Riedenburg. Overnight in a 3-star hotel.

Day 5: Riedenburg/Meihern – Regensburg (56 km)
Passing Essing, you will reach Kelheim. From here you may take an individual boat trip through the dramatic Danube Breakthrough to Weltenburg Monastery and back (approx. €16, payable on site). You will continue past Bad Abbach to the UNESCO World Heritage City of Regensburg, with its medieval Stone Bridge and Gothic cathedral. The route can be shortened by train from Saal (approx. €11, then only 40 km by bike). Overnight in a 4-star hotel.

Day 6: Departure
Your tour ends after breakfast. You may extend your stay with additional nights or begin your journey home.
