Short Description

Cycle the Danube from Passau to Vienna on this 9-day self-guided deluxe tour, gliding along flat, paved riverside paths from Bavaria into Austria. Pass the Schlögen Loop, Wachau vineyards and Melk Abbey, then unwind each evening in the finest upper 4-star hotels.

Tour Program

Day 1: Passau
You will arrive in Passau, the City of Three Rivers, where the Danube, Inn and Ilz flow together. Spend the afternoon wandering the picturesque old town or joining a city tour. If you have rented a bike, you can collect it between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.; late arrivals pick it up the next morning between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m.

Day 2: Passau – Schlögen (approx. 45 km)
You will set off into the Upper Danube Valley, where steep, wooded slopes rise almost untouched above the river. The highlight is the great Danube Loop, where the water swings a full 180 degrees. Along the way, the former Trappist monastery of Engelszell is worth a pause for its home-made liqueurs.

Day 3: Schlögen – Linz (approx. 55 km)
After a restful night you will ride on to the pretty town of Aschach, then follow the cycle path to Linz, the capital of Upper Austria. Its lively old centre and bold cultural scene invite you to linger through the evening.

Day 4: Linz – Grein/Bad Kreuzen (approx. 55 km)
A hearty breakfast sets you up for a day through the soft Danube meadows of the Machland. In Enns you can climb to the main square and its 60-metre tower, built in the 16th century, and visit the Lauriacum museum with its archaeological collection, before reaching Grein.

Day 5: Grein/Bad Kreuzen – Melk (approx. 53 km)
Today you will pedal through the Strudengau, one of the Danube's most romantic stretches, towards Melk. Long before you arrive, the imposing Benedictine abbey reveals itself high above the valley.

Day 6: Melk – Dürnstein (approx. 35 km)
This short stage may enchant you most. You will ride through the UNESCO World Heritage Wachau, the heart of Austrian wine country, until you reach the historic town of Dürnstein with its blue-and-white abbey tower.

Day 7: Dürnstein – Tulln (approx. 49 km)
Leaving the vineyards behind, you will roll gently across the wide Tullnerfeld. By afternoon you arrive in the Roman town of Tulln, where a stroll through its tidy streets rounds off the day.

Day 8: Tulln – Vienna (approx. 35 km)
On your final stage the Vienna Woods appear on the horizon. Watch for Greifenstein Castle and the sharp spires of Klosterneuburg Abbey; just beyond them you reach the Austrian capital, the city of the waltz.

Day 9: Vienna
Your tour ends after breakfast. Before you leave, visit the bustling Naschmarkt or the famous Prater with its giant Ferris wheel. You can extend your stay in Vienna or take the train back to Passau.

The Customer may withdraw from the contract (cancel) at any time prior to commencement of the tour. Cancellation must be effected in writing. In the event of cancellation or no-show the following cancellation fees shall become due in relation to the tour price:

Up to the 28th day prior to departure 20%, however at least 50.- euros per person.

From the 27th day until the 14th day prior to departure 30%.

From the 13th day until the 8th day prior to departure 50%.

From the 7th until the 4th day prior to departure 70%.

From the 3rd day or with no-show for the tour 90%.
