Short Description

Cycle the Danube from Passau to Vienna on this 8-day self-guided gourmet ride. Flat, paved riverside paths carry you past terraced Wachau vineyards and Mühlviertel beer country. Taste Linzer Torte, Wachau wines and a sweet Demel treat as the river unfolds toward Vienna.

Tour Program

Day 1: Passau
Your journey begins in Passau, the German city where three rivers meet. Arrive at your own pace and settle in. Spend the free hours wandering the picturesque old town, and collect your rental bike in the late afternoon (or the following morning for later arrivals).

Day 2: Passau – Schlögen Loop (approx. 50 km)
Set off through the Upper Danube Valley towards Schlögen. In Engelhartszell you can visit the former Trappist monastery and sample liqueurs made by the monks. Ride on to the striking Schlögen Loop, where the river bends a full 180 degrees.

Day 3: Schlögen Loop – Linz (approx. 45 km)
Riverside inns invite you to a hearty Brettljause and a foam-crowned Mühlviertel beer along the way. In Linz, the capital of Upper Austria, taste the original Linzer Torte in a traditional coffee house in the old town.

Day 4: Linz – Strudengau (approx. 60 km)
This stretch has much to see: Enns, the oldest town in Austria, then untouched meadows and orchards leading to Ardagger. The Ardagger Abbey's spice workshop offers all kinds of regional delicacies.

Day 5: Strudengau – Maria Taferl (approx. 45 km)
Today you cycle through a landscape of tall, densely wooded rock formations rising on both banks of the Danube. High above the river stands the pilgrimage church of Maria Taferl.

Day 6: Maria Taferl – Wachau Valley (approx. 50 km)
Another highlight of this tour is the magnificent Wachau, with terraced vineyards and apricot groves interspersed with castles and monasteries. There is also the chance to relax on a short boat excursion. On the way to Krems you pass through the winegrowing villages of Spitz, Weißenkirchen and Dürnstein, where welcoming taverns show Austrian hospitality at its best.

Day 7: Wachau Valley – Vienna (approx. 45 km + train Krems–Tulln)
Cycle into Krems and continue by train to Tulln. From there you ride your final stretch through the Vienna Woods and pass through the "Gates of Vienna". Stop at the impressive monastery in Klosterneuburg before reaching the City of Music. A visit to the historic Demel patisserie is the sweet finale of your ride.

Day 8: Vienna
Before leaving Vienna, visit the famous Naschmarkt and the well-known Prater park. Your tour ends after breakfast, or extend your stay in the city. The return journey to Passau is included: by train in seasons 1 and 2, or by bus (with your own bike) in season 3.

The Customer may withdraw from the contract (cancel) at any time prior to commencement of the tour. Cancellation must be effected in writing. In the event of cancellation or no-show the following cancellation fees shall become due in relation to the tour price:

Up to the 28th day prior to departure 20%, however at least 50.- euros per person.

From the 27th day until the 14th day prior to departure 30%.

From the 13th day until the 8th day prior to departure 50%.

From the 7th until the 4th day prior to departure 70%.

From the 3rd day or with no-show for the tour 90%.
