Short Description

Cycle from Passau to Vienna along the Danube on this 6-day self-guided athletic tour. The pace is sporty, with longer daily stages of around 80 km, yet the riverbank still carries you past the Schlögen loop, the vineyards of the Wachau and the abbey of Melk.

Tour Program

Day 1: Passau
You will arrive in Passau, the city where the Danube, Inn and Ilz rivers meet. Spend the remaining hours wandering the picturesque old town, or simply settle in before the ride begins. Rental bikes can be collected in the late afternoon, or the following morning for later arrivals.

Day 2: Passau – Eferdinger Valley (approx. 70 km)
You will follow the Danube towards the Schlögen loop, where the hard granite of the Mühlviertel forces the river into a dramatic 180-degree bend. A ferry (not included) carries you to the southern bank, where you will roll on through the scenic market town of Aschach to reach Brandstatt.

Day 3: Eferdinger Valley – Strudengau (approx. 86 km)
Today you will ride through Linz, the capital of Upper Austria and a city rich with attractions. Beyond it lies the Strudengau, and in Grein you will find an imposing castle and the oldest city theatre in the country.

Day 4: Strudengau – Krems (approx. 85 km)
Leaving the baroque riverside behind, you will cycle through the Nibelungengau to Pöchlarn, birthplace of the artist Oskar Kokoschka. After the Benedictine abbey of Melk, the rolling vineyards of the Wachau lead you past Spitz, Weissenkirchen and the ruins above Dürnstein, where Richard the Lionheart was once held prisoner, before the thousand-year-old wine town of Krems welcomes you for the night.

Day 5: Krems – Vienna (approx. 80 km)
The final cycling day carries you across the wide Tullner fields. As the foothills of the Vienna Woods appear, you will pass the castle of Greifenstein and the sharp spires of Klosterneuburg monastery, and soon after you will reach Vienna, the charismatic capital and city of the waltz.

Day 6: Vienna
Your tour ends after breakfast. Linger longer in Vienna to feel the rhythm of everyday life in this great metropolis, or begin your journey home.

The Customer may withdraw from the contract (cancel) at any time prior to commencement of the tour. Cancellation must be effected in writing. In the event of cancellation or no-show the following cancellation fees shall become due in relation to the tour price:

Up to the 28th day prior to departure 20%, however at least 50.- euros per person.

From the 27th day until the 14th day prior to departure 30%.

From the 13th day until the 8th day prior to departure 50%.

From the 7th until the 4th day prior to departure 70%.

From the 3rd day or with no-show for the tour 90%.
