Short Description

Cycle from Salzburg to Vienna on this 8-day self-guided tour, linking the pristine lakes of the Salzkammergut to the Danube cycle path. Quiet railway trails lead past blue waters, then the great river carries you through vineyards, castles and the romantic Wachau to Vienna.

Tour Program

Day 1: Salzburg
You will arrive in Mozart's hometown of Salzburg. Use the extra time for a stroll through the picturesque old town of this cultural and fascinating city.

Day 2: Salzburg – Attersee (approx. 60 km)
Following the old Ischler railway line, you will cycle towards the Mondsee and soon reach the gently rolling hills of the Attergau and the Attersee, a much-loved recreation area treasured by locals and visitors alike.

Day 3: Attersee – Traunsee (approx. 50 km)
Today you will ride through the romantic Weißenbachtal valley and reach the shores of Lake Traunsee. You continue to Ebensee, where a ship awaits you for a scenic crossing to Gmunden — enjoy the beautiful panorama.

Day 4: Traunsee – Linz (approx. 30 km)
Your route leads through the villages of Laakirchen and Steyrermühl to Lambach. From there you will take the train to Linz, the capital of Upper Austria.

Day 5: Linz – Strudengau (approx. 60 km)
Passing the Danube town of Mauthausen, you will dive into the impressive natural landscape of the Danube floodplains, home to rare animals and plants. Do not miss the baroque town of Grein, where the oldest theatre in Austria still stands.

Day 6: Strudengau – Wachau (approx. 65 km)
Riding through the Strudengau and Nibelungengau regions, you will reach the famous Wachau, a UNESCO World Heritage Area. Visit the striking Benedictine abbey of Melk or sample local wine at one of the traditional "Heurigen" taverns.

Day 7: Wachau – Vienna (approx. 65 km)
Enjoy the ride through a string of beautiful villages. Travelling via Weißenkirchen and Dürnstein to the medieval town of Krems, you will pass the impressive Benedictine abbey of Göttweig. Your cycling journey ends with a train ride from Tulln into the city of music, Vienna.

Day 8: Vienna
After breakfast your tour comes to an end. Take the included train back to Salzburg, or extend your stay to discover more of Vienna.

The Customer may withdraw from the contract (cancel) at any time prior to commencement of the tour. Cancellation must be effected in writing. In the event of cancellation or no-show the following cancellation fees shall become due in relation to the tour price:

Up to the 28th day prior to departure 20%, however at least 50.- euros per person.

From the 27th day until the 14th day prior to departure 30%.

From the 13th day until the 8th day prior to departure 50%.

From the 7th until the 4th day prior to departure 70%.

From the 3rd day or with no-show for the tour 90%.
