The Saint Anthony Cycleway: Gemona to Padua

Day 1: Arrival in Gemona
You will arrive individually at your first hotel in Gemona del Friuli.

Day 2: Gemona – Venzone – Lago di Cavazzo (35 km, +400 m / −400 m)
Today you set out from Gemona del Friuli, a historic town at the foot of the Julian Prealps, following the Alpe Adria cycle route towards Venzone. You ride through a landscape of mountains, woods and small historic centres to this striking fortified medieval village within its imposing walls, where you can walk the streets of the old town and see the celebrated Duomo. The return follows a particularly scenic route along the Lago di Cavazzo, the largest natural lake in Friuli Venezia Giulia.

Day 3: Gemona – Meduno (45 km, +400 m / −280 m)
Today you follow the Pedemontana FVG-3 cycleway through the country at the foot of the mountains. After crossing the Tagliamento you reach Pinzano and continue between picturesque hamlets and small villages with their country chapels. The route heads towards Borgo Ampiano and the Cosa stream, with increasingly spectacular views of the surrounding mountains, before reaching Meduno, a fine mountain village at the foot of the peaks.

Day 4: Meduno – Sacile (47 km, +150 m / −430 m)
You continue on the FVG-3 through some of the most appealing villages of western Friuli. The ride takes you to Maniago, Montereale Valcellina and Aviano, with their old centres, ancient churches and monuments. Beyond the towns you continue past small hamlets and old fortifications to Polcenigo, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, with the church of San Giacomo and the remarkable springs of the Livenza. The route then goes through San Giovanni and Nave di Fontanafredda, with its church dedicated to Saint Anthony Abbot, and finally to Sacile, an elegant town on the Livenza known as the "Garden of the Serenissima".

Day 5: Sacile – Vittorio Veneto – Susegana – Montebelluna (66 km, +470 m / −340 m)
Today you cross from Friuli Venezia Giulia into the Veneto, riding to Mescolino Minelle and the museum dedicated to Ottavio Bottecchia, one of the great figures of Italian cycling. You continue towards Vittorio Veneto and Conegliano on the Munich–Venice route, through gentle hill country rich in history, and on to Susegana, dominated by the Castello di San Salvatore. Past Nervesa della Battaglia you cross the famous bridge over the Piave before reaching Montebelluna, among the soft hills and vineyards of the Prosecco country.

Day 6: Montebelluna – Asolo – Padua (66 km, +210 m / −360 m)
Today the route takes you to Asolo, the "town of a hundred horizons" and one of the loveliest villages in the Veneto. From there you follow the BI12 cycle route along the Muson stream and the "Sui Sentieri degli Ezzelini" path, through countryside, small towns and historic sites. You continue through Castelfranco Veneto, Camposampiero, Campodarsego, Terraglione and Castagnara, crossing the Brenta to reach Padua. The last kilometres bring you into the heart of the city, to Piazza del Santo and the Basilica of Saint Anthony, where you can collect the pilgrim's "Cartula".

Day 7: Departure
Your tour ends after breakfast. You may choose to extend your stay in Padua.
