Short Description

This journey on two wheels begins in Cividale del Friuli, a medieval town and UNESCO World Heritage Site that was the first Lombard duchy in Italy. From this base you will explore the enchanted Collio wine region, cross into Slovenia's beautiful Brda, and ride among castles, vineyards, and gentle hills. Midway through the tour you will move to Gradisca d'Isonzo, one of Italy's most beautiful villages, nestled within ancient walls. From there you will pedal to the Roman ruins of Aquileia and reach the Adriatic coast at Trieste. Half board with three-course dinners is included throughout.

Tour Program

Day 1: Arrival in Cividale del Friuli
Individual arrival at the first hotel in Cividale or its surroundings. The historic centre unfolds on foot: the Piazza del Duomo with its cathedral, the Lombard Temple, the Celtic Hypogeum, and the famous Devil's Bridge spanning the Natisone gorge with sweeping views over the plateau.

Day 2: Cividale – Circular Tour toward Udine (30 km or 60 km)
A shorter variant will take you to Prepotto, a picturesque village nestled in the Collio between Udine and Trieste near the Slovenian border. The longer option leads to Udine, a lively university town rooted in tradition yet open to innovation.

Day 3: Cividale – Circular Tour into Slovenia and Brda (45 km or 65 km)
Today the route crosses into Slovenia's Brda, one of Europe's most beautiful wine regions, cradled by the emerald waters of the Isonzo, the Friulian plain, and Monte Sabotino. A land of castles, white churches, and centuries of contested history — every corner has a story to tell.

Day 4: Cividale – Castles of the Collio (40 km or 45 km)
The Collio is famed not only for its DOC wines but also for gentle hills dotted with small villages that seem frozen in time. Today you will visit the castles of the Collio, including the Rocca Bernarda, a 15th-century fortress where the Picolit grape was first cultivated.

Day 5: Cividale – Cormons – Gradisca (35 km; variant 45 km via Gorizia)
You will leave Cividale and ride to Cormons, the cultural and economic heart of the Collio, then continue to Gradisca d'Isonzo. In the historic centre, the Palazzo dei Provveditori houses the regional wine centre.

Day 6: Gradisca – Circular Tour to Aquileia (45 km or 75 km)
You will ride to Aquileia, once the largest city of the Roman Empire, with its vast archaeological area and the Patriarchal Basilica — a treasure chest of art and history. The medieval cathedral with its early-Christian mosaic floor is unmissable.

Day 7: Gradisca – Circular Tour to Trieste (40 km)
The final stage takes you through the Karst landscape to the shores of the Adriatic. Before reaching Trieste, stop at Miramare Castle perched above the sea. Trieste awaits: a cosmopolitan city of merchants and writers where cultures, languages, and traditions intertwine. Enjoy a pause in one of the famous literary cafés before returning to Gradisca (train from Trieste to Sagrado included, then by bike).

Day 8: Gradisca d'Isonzo, Departure
Individual departure or possibility to extend the stay.
