Alpe Adria in Full Length Salzburg–Trieste

Day 1: Arrival in Salzburg
You will arrive in Salzburg and settle into your hotel, where your rental bike will be waiting (if booked). A private parking space for your car is included for the entire duration of the tour, additional nights included. The rest of the day is yours to explore the festival city at your leisure.

Day 2: Salzburg – St. Johann im Pongau (63 km; +350 m)
Heading south, you will cycle along the car-free Salzach River to Hallein and Kuchl, then continue on well-developed cycle paths via Werfen to St. Johann im Pongau. A shorter variant is possible by train, parallel to the cycle route (29 km and +61 m only; hourly trains, bike ticket approx. €3.50 on site).

Day 3: St. Johann – Möllbrücke (59 km cycling; +365 m; 44 min train)
From Schwarzach-St. Veit you take the train to Dorfgastein (from approx. 10:00) and ride to Böckstein, where you take the train with your bike through the Tauernschleuse to Mallnitz (included, approx. hourly). From there you continue by bike into the Drava valley and on to your overnight stop. For arrivals from 7 May to 4 July the Tauern rail tunnel is closed: you cycle to Schwarzach-St. Veit station and take the included ÖBB bus with your bike to Mallnitz (approx. 75–120 minutes), with a scenic ride into the Seebachtal to the Stappitz lakes (14 km, +80 m).

Day 4: Möllbrücke – Tarvisio (72 km; +312 m; 16 min train)
A flat, car-free route follows the Drava River through Paternion to the charming old town of Villach. You will then ride gently uphill along the Gail River to Arnoldstein and reach picturesque Tarvisio by a short train hop (approx. €5 per person on site) or by bike (+15 km).

Day 5: Tarvisio – Carnia / Venzone / Gemona (52–64 km)
Today is the heart of the Alpe Adria route. You will cycle car-free through the narrow Fella valley along the old railway line to Pontebba, and after a short stretch of road you will continue to your day's destination.

Day 6: Gemona – Udine (44–56 km)
Partly car-free and close to the Tagliamento River, you will ride through the fertile Friuli countryside past the village of Buia to Udine, a magnificent trading town. The evening is perfect for strolling through the old town and its many sights, including the Duomo.

Day 7: Udine – Grado (55 km)
You will ride to Palmanova with its Venetian fortress and on through the ancient city of Aquileia, following the route through the lagoon landscape to the charming coastal town of Grado.

Day 8: Grado – Trieste (33 km cycling + 24 min train, or 67 km by bike)
On well-maintained paths and secondary roads, you will ride through the unique Monfalcone lagoon. A short train ride (included, bike ticket approx. €2 on site) brings you into Trieste, the magnificent port city that crowns the route.

Day 9: Departure from Trieste
End of the tour after breakfast. You can book additional nights, or a return journey by train to Salzburg at extra cost (daily, with changes; train times in your travel documents).
