Alpe Adria in Full Length Salzburg–Trieste

Day 1: Arrival in Salzburg
You will arrive in Salzburg and settle into your hotel, where your rental bike will be waiting (if booked). A private parking space for your car is included for the entire duration of the tour. The rest of the day is yours to explore Mozart's birthplace at your leisure.

Day 2: Salzburg – Bischofshofen / St. Johann im Pongau (55–63 km; +350 m)
Heading south, you will cycle along the car-free Salzach River to Hallein and Kuchl, then continue on secondary roads via Werfen to St. Johann im Pongau. The valley opens up around you as you pass beneath the dramatic peaks of the Tennengebirge. A shorter variant is possible by train (29 km only).

Day 3: Bischofshofen – Möllbrücke (59 km cycling + train sections)
You will pedal to Schwarzach-St. Veit and board the train to Bad Hofgastein (ticket included). From there you will ride to Böckstein and load your bike onto the iconic Tauern motorail through the mountain tunnel to Mallnitz (ticket included). On the far side, a sweeping descent carries you into the Drava valley and on to your overnight stop.

Day 4: Möllbrücke – Tarvis (78 km; +312 m + optional train)
A flat, car-free route follows the Drava River through Paternion to the charming old town of Villach. You will then ride gently uphill along the Gail River to Arnoldstein, with the option of a short train hop or an extra 15 km by bike to reach picturesque Tarvisio, right on the Italian border.

Day 5: Tarvis – Osoppo / Gemona (65–68 km; +85 m)
Today is the heart of the Alpe Adria route. You will cycle car-free through the narrow Fella valley along the old railway line to Pontebba, crossing viaducts and passing through short tunnels. After a brief stretch on the road you will arrive in the Friuli foothills at your day's destination.

Day 6: Osoppo – Udine (50–53 km)
Partly car-free and close to the Tagliamento River, you will ride through the fertile Friuli countryside past the village of Buia to Udine, a splendid trading town. The evening is perfect for strolling through Piazza della Libertà and sampling the local Friulian cuisine.

Day 7: Udine – Grado (63 km)
From the city centre you will ride through romantic villages and vineyards to Palmanova, the star-shaped Venetian fortress town. Continuing south through Cervignano and Aquileia — once a Roman capital — you will follow a scenic path through the lagoon to the old port town of Grado on the Adriatic.

Day 8: Grado – Trieste (33 km cycling + short train)
On well-maintained paths and secondary roads, you will ride through the unique Monfalcone lagoon. A short train ride brings you into Trieste (bike ticket approx. €2 on site), where the Habsburg grandeur of Piazza Unità d'Italia awaits on the waterfront.

Day 9: Departure from Trieste
End of the tour. You can book additional nights or take the included back transfer from Trieste to Salzburg (by bus every Friday, or by train on other days).
