You will ride along the car-free Salzach valley, traverse the dramatic Tauern rail tunnel, glide through the Drava and Gail valleys, and follow the old railway line through the Fella gorge into the Friuli plains. From medieval Villach to Renaissance Palmanova, from the wild lagoon of Grado to the Viennese elegance of Trieste — every day brings a new landscape and a new culture. Where does the tour start and end?
The tour starts in Salzburg (Austria) and ends in Trieste (Italy). A back transfer from Trieste to Salzburg is included — by bus every Friday or by train on the remaining days.
How difficult is this tour?
The route is predominantly flat or gently rolling, with a total elevation gain of around 350 m spread over several days. Two significant climbs are bypassed via included train and motorail sections. It is suitable for cyclists with a moderate level of fitness.
Are train tickets included?
Yes. The passenger ticket for the Schwarzach–Bad Hofgastein train and the person-plus-bike ticket for the Tauern motorail (Böckstein–Mallnitz) are included. Other local train tickets to shorten stages are payable on site.
What type of accommodation is provided?
You will stay in good mid-range 3-star and 4-star hotels. Daily breakfast buffet or extended breakfast is included. Half-board (4 dinners) is available as an optional supplement.
Is parking available in Salzburg?
Yes. A private, fenced parking space in Salzburg is included for the entire tour, including any additional nights. An exit ticket is provided with your travel documents.
