Short Description

An 11-day self-guided cycling tour along the Alpe Adria trail from Salzburg to Grado. Follow the same spectacular route from the Austrian Alps to the Adriatic Sea at a relaxed pace, with shorter daily stages of 35–60 km. From €1,519 per person.

Tour Program

Day 1: Arrival in Salzburg
You will arrive independently in Salzburg, the city of Mozart. Surrounded by baroque monuments in this beautiful historic centre, you will settle into your hotel and savour a typical Mozartkugel — ready to begin your journey towards the sea.

Day 2: Salzburg – Golling (approx. 35 km)
With views of the Hohensalzburg Fortress, you will leave the city along the Salzach. You will pass Hellbrunn Palace, where extraordinary water games have delighted visitors for over 400 years. You will continue towards Hallein, known for its crooked houses and its historic salt mines. Nearby, the Golling waterfall is reachable on foot via a short path.

Day 3: Golling – St. Johann (approx. 35 km)
You will continue along the Tauern cycle path, following the Salzach valley deeper into the alpine landscape. The mountains will draw closer as you ride towards St. Johann im Pongau.

Day 4: St. Johann – Bad Gastein/Mallnitz (approx. 55 km + train)
You will ride into the tranquil Gastein Valley along the Gasteiner Ache, framed by the peaks of the High Tauern. Passing Dorfgastein and Bad Hofgastein, you will reach Bad Gastein, the famous spa town often called the "Monte Carlo of the Alps", known for its Belle Époque hotels and the Gastein waterfall that has attracted artists and poets for centuries. From Böckstein you will board the train through the Tauernschleuse to Mallnitz (bike included).

Day 5: Bad Gastein/Mallnitz – Spittal a.d. Drau (approx. 40 km + train)
From Mallnitz you will ride along the river Möll through the incredible mountain scenery of the Glocknerradweg, descending gently through the Hohe Tauern National Park. You will reach Spittal a.d. Drau, known for the Renaissance Castle Porcia.

Day 6: Spittal a.d. Drau – Villach (approx. 35 km)
You will follow the Drava cycle path southward to Villach, the second-largest city in Carinthia, famous for its Carnival and the Villacher Kirchtag folklore festival. If time allows, you can enjoy a swim in one of the nearby lakes.

Day 7: Villach – Tarvisio/Camporosso (approx. 40 km)
Following the river Gail, you will leave Villach and cross into Italy after just a few kilometres. In the Canal Valley, where Italian, Austrian, and Slovenian territories meet, you will reach Tarvisio — a town where diverse Alpine cultures have mingled for centuries.

Day 8: Tarvisio/Camporosso – Venzone/Moggio/Tolmezzo (approx. 55 km)
From Tarvisio, surrounded by wide valleys and dense forests, you will ride through the Canal Valley admiring the beauty of the Friulian Alps and the unspoilt nature of the thick woodlands.

Day 9: Venzone/Moggio/Tolmezzo – Udine (approx. 60 km)
You will soon reach Gemona, one of the most beautiful historic towns in Friuli, marked by the majestic Duomo of Santa Maria Assunta. The route follows the local wine country, lined with lush vineyards inviting you to taste the nectars of these hills. The stage ends in Udine, a city shaped by Venetian influence, where a quiet, relaxed atmosphere fills the streets.

Day 10: Udine – Grado (approx. 55 km)
Accompanied by the Scirocco wind, you will ride through characteristic landscapes to Grado, once a fishing town and now one of the Adriatic's most popular seaside resorts, known as the "island of the sun". Along the way, Palmanova (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and the excavation areas of ancient Aquileia await your visit.

Day 11: Departure from Grado
You will depart individually, or you may choose to extend your stay.
