Short Description

Pedal from Stockholm into the rolling countryside of Sörmland on this 8-day cycling tour through Sweden's lake-and-castle heartland. Ride past UNESCO-listed Drottningholm Palace, medieval Gripsholm Castle, and the baroque Mälsåker Castle — with overnight stays in charming villages, a historic castle hotel, and a seaside spa town.

Tour Program

Day 1: Arrival in Stockholm
Check in to your hotel in central Stockholm and explore the capital, spread across 14 islands connected by 57 bridges. Restaurants, museums and waterfront promenades are all within easy reach.

Day 2: Stockholm to Södertälje (59 km)
Follow an ancient Viking-age trade route out of Stockholm. After 14 km, reach Drottningholm Palace — a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the permanent residence of the Swedish King and Queen. Continue across Ekerö Island with a short ferry crossing before arriving in Södertälje.

Day 3: Södertälje to Mariefred (42 km)
Cycle on quiet side roads to the idyllic town of Mariefred and Gripsholm Castle, built in the 16th century by King Gustav Vasa. The castle houses Sweden's finest Vasa-era state apartments, one of Europe's best-preserved 18th-century theatres, and the Swedish State Portrait Collection.

Day 4: Mariefred & Selaön Island loop (63 km)
A circular ride takes you to Selaön, Sweden's largest lake island. Visit the stunning baroque Mälsåker Castle, once owned by the von Fersen family — most famously Axel von Fersen the Younger, rumoured lover of Marie Antoinette. Return to Mariefred via the Näckrosleden 'Water Lily' bike trail.

Day 5: Mariefred to Gnesta (43 km)
Continue along the Näckrosleden through a rolling landscape of fields and gentle climbs. Your destination is Södertuna Castle, a beautiful 18th-century manor on Lake Frösjön, repeatedly awarded Castle Hotel of the Year.

Day 6: Gnesta to Trosa (41 km)
Ride past art exhibitions, castles and swimming spots before arriving in the picture-perfect small town of Trosa — known for its narrow alleys, red wooden houses, and wonderful waterfront views.

Day 7: Trosa to Stockholm (55 km)
Head north via Mörkö island with a short ferry crossing. Take the commuter train from Tumba and cycle the final kilometres through Södermalm back to your hotel in central Stockholm.

Day 8: Departure
Tour ends after breakfast. Extra nights in Stockholm highly recommended — the city has plenty more to offer.
