🙋 Common questions
How long is the cycling in Denmark and Sweden each day, and how hard is it?
Boat Bike Tours rates this trip difficulty level 3, which means a higher level of exertion over medium hilly terrain. The short routes run between 26 and 48 km a day, adding up to roughly 160 km across five cycling days. Longer variants of 38 to 58 km are offered whenever you feel like riding more.
What does the Copenhagen to Malmö sailing and cycling trip cost?
Prices start from 1,999 euro per person for the first departures on the Mare Frisium, and rise to around 2,449 euro per person on the larger Antigua and Atlantis in high season. The rate covers your cabin, all meals on board, the guiding and the route material. Bike rental is charged separately.
When is the best season to cycle the Øresund between Denmark and Sweden?
Departures run from late April to October, leaving Copenhagen on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays depending on the week. Spring brings blossom, long light evenings and quieter roads, midsummer gives you the warmest sailing weather, and September offers golden fields in Skåne. Scandinavian weather changes fast, so pack layers and something windproof whatever month you choose.
Which ship will I sail on between Copenhagen and Malmö?
You will travel on one of three traditional sailing ships: the Mare Frisium with ten cabins for up to 20 guests, the Antigua with fifteen cabins for up to 30, or the Atlantis with sixteen cabins for up to 32. Your ship is set by the departure date. All three have a saloon, Wi-Fi on board and a proper galley.
Do I need sailing experience for this Øresund voyage?
None at all. The professional crew handles the ship, and you are welcome simply to sit on deck and watch the Danish and Swedish coasts go past. If you would like to take part, the crew will show you how to help with the navigation and with hoisting the sails. On day five the whole day is spent under sail.
Are bikes provided for the Danish and Swedish routes?
Bikes are not included in the tour price. Boat Bike Tours carries custom-built unisex touring bikes and tailor-made Granville Urban e-bikes on board, which you rent for the week for roughly 98 to 273 euro depending on the model. Helmets are also rented separately. You are free to bring your own bicycle instead if you prefer.
What will I see around Stevns Klint and the island of Ven?
Stevns Klint is a wall of white limestone on the east coast of Zealand and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Ven, out in the middle of the strait, is a plateau of only 7.5 square kilometres with fewer than 400 residents, steep cliffs, old farmhouses, Tycho Brahe's observatory and a lively community of artists and craftspeople.
Is this Copenhagen to Malmö tour guided, and what is included on board?
Two tour leaders ride with the group every day, so you never navigate alone, and you also receive cycling maps and GPS tracks. On board you get seven nights with breakfast, six packed lunches and seven three-course dinners, coffee and tea, a welcome drink, bed linen and towels, a waterproof pannier bag, a water bottle and Wi-Fi in the saloon.
