Lake Neusiedl Wine Cycling Tour

Day 1: Arrival in Podersdorf
You will arrive in Podersdorf on the shore of Lake Neusiedl and check in to your 4-star lakeside hotel. Your bike and travel documents are handed over on arrival, together with your Burgenland Card, which gives you ferry rides, museums and many entrance fees free or at a reduced rate all week. Settle in, watch the light fade over the reeds and plan your first ride.

Days 2–7: Day rides from Podersdorf
For six days, Podersdorf is your base and you choose the route that suits your mood. The suggestions below can be combined freely, and every route can be adjusted. In April and October, some routes may change because the lake ferries are not yet, or no longer, running.

Lake Neusiedl Cycle Path (approx. 48 km)
You will follow the shore through picturesque villages, small towns and gently hilly country to Rust, the town of storks, where nests crown the rooftops. The ferry carries you back across the water to Podersdorf, the afternoon sun warm on your face.

Wine and Culture Route (approx. 43 km)
Vineyards and rolling hills frame wide views over the lake. You will reach Halbturn Castle, the most significant baroque building in Burgenland. In summer, keep an eye out for colourful bee-eaters, which nest in holes in the sandy banks.

Lacken Route (approx. 54 km)
Today belongs to the Lacken, shallow and partly salty lakes, most of them less than 50 cm deep. They shape the rich plant life of the region. You will pedal past wet meadows, reed beds and vineyards. It is also the ideal day to stop at the thermal baths, where your entrance is included in the tour.

Sopron, Hungary (approx. 72 km)
The ferry takes you south to Mörbisch, the festival town. From there you will cycle to the Hungarian side of the lake and on to Sopron, close to the border, a city full of historic heritage and sights. Near the border, the village of Fertőrákos is home to a traditional wine-grower's house serving regional specialities.

Cherry Blossom Route (approx. 51 km)
You will cross the lake by ferry and ride past vineyards and wide cherry orchards. After a few short climbs, broad views over the Hungarian lowlands open up. A ferry brings you back to Podersdorf at the end of the day.

Festival Route (approx. 54 km)
A ferry takes you to the baroque town of Rust. Along the way, you can look behind the scenes of the festival stages in Mörbisch am See and St. Margarethen. In Eisenstadt, Haydn's city, the Esterházy Palace awaits. Wine taverns, inns, the local wine academy and the palace wine shop add plenty of flavour to the day.

Day of rest
Take a day off the saddle. You can sail, surf or swim in the lake, or unwind in the hotel's wellness area with sauna, steam bath and indoor pool.

Day 8: Departure from Podersdorf
Your week at the lake ends after breakfast. Head home well rested, or add a day to visit Vienna, about an hour away by bus.
