Boat Bike Tours does not set a minimum age. The limit is height: the smallest children's bike on board fits riders from 1.20 m, roughly six years old. Younger children ride in a child seat or on a trailer bike, both rentable on request. Tell us at booking so the crew can put one aside.

How much do you actually cycle?

Between 6 and 15 km on the riding days, on flat or gently rolling ground, about 58 km over the week. Boat Bike Tours rates the tour difficulty level 1, its easiest. A local guide leads every ride, and the walks ashore are on good paths, often paved.

What do the children do when nobody feels like cycling?

Skipping a ride is normal here. The ship stays with the group, so you can swim off the deck, take a canoe out, sit on one of the two sun decks or walk into the harbour village instead. The programme is built to be picked from, day by day.

Are the canoes, the swim stops and the excursions extra?

No. The canoes and the sea access come with the ship, and the swim stops are part of the sailing day. Entrance fees to museums and archaeological sites are covered when the group visits them together, which includes the Melissani cave and the donkey farm. Anything you decide to do on your own ashore is on you.

What happens if it rains?

The crew can change the route for wind and weather, and they do. A wet morning usually becomes a longer crossing or a longer stop in port. In July and August in the Ionian, rain is rare; wind is the more common reason for a change of plan.

Do we bring bikes or rent them?

Bikes are not in the tour price, so nearly everyone rents on board: hybrid 80 euro per week, e-bike 180 euro, children's bike 60 euro. Trailer bikes and child seats are available on request. Optional cover against theft and damage costs 14 euro a week for a hybrid, 28 for an e-bike. Helmets are compulsory on every ride, and only a limited number are on board, so bring your own well-fitted one.

What do we pay on board?

A compulsory package of tourist taxes plus drinking water, tea and filter coffee: 80 euro per person, 40 euro for children up to 16, paid to the captain. Other drinks go on a tally sheet and are settled at the end. Special diets (gluten free, lactose free, vegan) cost 70 euro per week and must be arranged before you travel.

What are the cabins like?

Twin cabins below deck with private shower and toilet, bed linen and towels provided, cleaned daily with fresh towels mid-week. Ten cabins, so the group stays small. Three people can share one cabin, which brings the price down by 200 euro each. Bring a beach towel for ashore; the boat's towels stay on board.

Not on the Panagiota. Almost every cafe and bar in the harbours has free wifi, which is how most guests handle it.

Which language is the tour in?

English and German. The guide runs each day bilingually.

Short Description

Eight days around the Ionian Islands on a small motor yacht, with the bikes on board and the children in the group. The riding is short and flat, 6 to 15 km a day at difficulty level 1, so nobody gets dragged up a hill. Between the rides there are swim stops straight off the boat, canoes to paddle, a donkey farm, the Melissani cave by rowing boat and long afternoons in harbours like Gaios and Fiskardo. A guide cycles with you every day and the chef cooks on board. Corfu to Corfu, 22 guests maximum.

Tour Program

Day 1 - Corfu (embarkation) - 0 km
Make your own way to Corfu. A group transfer from the airport can be arranged and is paid separately. Check-in on the Panagiota opens at 2 pm. The week starts with dinner on board and a night in Corfu harbour.

Day 2 - Corfu to Paxos - 7 km
We cast off for Paxos, the smallest of the seven Ionian Islands: 32 km2 holding more than 250,000 olive trees, which give the whole island a silver-green shimmer. The natural harbour at Gaios is the kind of place you remember. In the afternoon a short coastal ride takes us to Kaki Lagkada beach for a swim in clear water. Dinner in a taverna in Gaios if you feel like going ashore.

Day 3 - Paxos to Lefkas - 8 km
A morning crossing, with an anchor stop near Antipaxos for a swim straight off the boat. We reach Lefkas through a narrow channel crossed by an original swing bridge that links the island to the mainland. From Lefkas town we ride around the lagoon, with a second swim at the white sand of Agios Ioannis. The night is spent in Nidri.

Day 4 - Lefkas to Cephalonia - 10 km
From Nidri we ride through olive groves to a waterfall. If the water is running well, you can get in. Then we sail to Fiskardo, on the northern tip of Cephalonia, a harbour of small coloured houses, cafes and bars. An easy half-hour walk in the evening leads to the lighthouse.

Day 5 - Cephalonia to Meganisi - 15 km
A short crossing to Sami, where today's ride starts. It follows the coast to the Melissani cave, which you can only enter by rowing boat. Next is a donkey farm, informative for the adults and a straightforward hit with the children. The boat picks us up in Sami for a swim break, then carries on to Meganisi for the night.

Day 6 - Meganisi to Arillas - 6 km
A short morning ride around Meganisi, then the longest crossing of the week to Arillas, a quiet spot on the mainland coast near Perdika. A walk along the sandy beach, or a swim around the boat, and that is the day.

Day 7 - Arillas to Corfu - 12 km
The last ride follows quiet roads under old olive trees, through a national park and along a small river to the monastery of Agios Athanasios, which we visit. The Panagiota takes us back across to Corfu for a final dinner on board.

Day 8 - Corfu (disembarkation) - 0 km
Breakfast, then check-out. A group transfer to the airport can be booked, or stay on in Corfu for a few more days.
