When is the best season to cycle from Corfu to Athens in Greece?
Departures run from spring to early autumn, with 2027 sailings from Corfu in May, late May, late June and August. Spring brings green hillsides and mild riding temperatures, while late summer offers warm sea water for the daily swimming stops. Midsummer on the Ionian Islands can be hot, so the shoulder months are usually the most comfortable.
How difficult is the cycling on the Ionian Islands and the Greek mainland?
Boat Bike Tours rates this tour level 4 of 5. You will ride through hilly terrain with climbs of up to roughly 400 metres and between 300 and 500 metres of ascent per day, on distances of 18 to 35 kilometres. It suits cyclists who ride regularly and handle varying road surfaces confidently. E-bikes make the climbs considerably easier.
What is the difference between the Corfu to Athens and the Athens to Corfu direction?
They are not the same itinerary reversed. Sailing from Corfu you ride Paxos, Lefkas and Ithaca first, reach Delphi from Mesolongi on day five and finish with Aegina and Athens. Sailing from Athens you start with Aegina and the Corinth Canal on day two, and you also visit Meganisi Island, which the Corfu departure does not include.
Which islands will I cycle between Corfu and Athens?
You will cycle on Paxos, Lefkas, Ithaca and Aegina, plus a mainland excursion day to Nafpaktos and Delphi from Mesolongi. Paxos is covered in olive groves, Lefkas offers mountain roads down to the harbour of Nidri, Ithaca is the legendary home of Odysseus, and Aegina is known across Greece for its pistachios.
What ship will I sleep on during the Gulf of Corinth tour?
You will sail on the Panagiota, a two-masted motor sailer in the comfort class taking a maximum of twenty passengers in ten cabins. She has two sun decks, deck chairs, a covered sundeck and direct sea access for swimming. Your fare covers seven nights in a twin cabin below deck with a private shower and toilet.

Boat Bike Tours sets a minimum age of ten years, and asks that children have good physical condition and previous cycle-touring experience. Rental bikes require a minimum height of 1.20 metres for hybrid bikes and 1.50 metres for e-bikes. Helmets are compulsory on all rides, and bringing your own well-fitted helmet is recommended.
