Family Cycling Tour on the Danube from Linz to Vienna

Day 1: Arrival in Linz
You will settle into your hotel in the heart of Linz, where your travel documents will be waiting. The rest of the day is yours to explore this vibrant city on the Danube — stroll along the riverbanks, wander through the old town, or simply relax before the adventure begins.

Day 2: Linz – Wallsee (approx. 40 km)
After a hearty breakfast, you will collect your rental bikes and set off along the Danube. The cycle path leads you through gentle riverside landscapes to Mitterkirchen, where the Celtic Village awaits — a fascinating open-air museum bringing to life the world of people who lived here over 2,700 years ago. Your children will love exploring the reconstructed Hallstatt-period houses. The day ends in the welcoming town of Wallsee.

Day 3: Wallsee – Marbach (approx. 40 km)
You will pedal onward to the charming baroque town of Grein, home to the oldest municipal theatre in Austria. A stop at Schörgi's Ice Pavilion is a must — the variety of flavours will delight everyone. The route continues along the river to Marbach, your base for the night. On warm days, the leisure and water sports paradise in Ardagger makes for a perfect detour.

Day 4: Marbach – Wachau (approx. 50 km)
From Marbach you will cycle via Pöchlarn into the famous Wachau valley, a UNESCO World Heritage landscape of vineyards, apricot orchards and medieval villages. The magnificent Benedictine monastery of Melk rises above the river on your left. You will continue through sun-drenched hillsides to Spitz, nestled at the foot of the legendary Tausendeimerberg.

Day 5: Rest day in the Wachau
A full day to savour this extraordinary wine-growing region at your own pace. Explore the romantic ruins of Dürnstein and Aggstein castles, visit the Maritime Museum in Spitz, take a family boat trip on the Danube, or simply stretch out on the well-kept river beaches for a lazy day of swimming and sunshine.

Day 6: Wachau – Stockerau (approx. 50 km by bike + train ride)
Gentle vineyards frame the Danube as you ride through Weißenkirchen and past the blue tower of Dürnstein, where Richard the Lionheart was once held captive. High on the banks, ancient castles recall the days of robber barons. In Krems, you will board a train to Tulln, where Austria's largest adventure and nature playground — the Garten Tulln — is guaranteed to thrill the whole family. A short, easy ride brings you to Stockerau for the night.

Day 7: Stockerau – Vienna (approx. 25 km)
The final stage carries you through the Vienna Gate and into the Danube metropolis. Your reward: a ride on the legendary Giant Ferris Wheel at the Prater, with sweeping views over the city skyline. The perfect finale to a week of family adventure.

Day 8: Departure
After breakfast, your return journey to Linz by train is included. Or extend your stay in Vienna with additional nights to explore the imperial capital at leisure.
