This is a self-guided tour: you ride at your own pace following route notes, maps and the GPS app. Your luggage is transferred daily from Vienna to Budapest, so you carry only what you need for the day. A telephone assistance line is available seven days a week.

On the sixth day you cross the hilly Danube Bend, one of the most scenic parts of the route, and reach the artist town of Szentendre with its nearby Farm Museum. Depending on the season the stage ends with a ship ride toward Budapest; outside the boat season a train ride replaces it.

Cycle from Vienna to Budapest through three Danube capitals on this 7-day self-guided tour. Quiet riverside paths and country back roads unwind past the Donau-Auen wetlands, the Szigetköz islands and the Danube Bend, with Bratislava's old town and Budapest waiting at the finish.

Tour Program

Day 1: Vienna
Your journey begins in Vienna, the imperial "City of Waltz." You will arrive individually, and the evening is yours. Wander through the historic centre or settle into a typical Viennese café or a Heuriger tavern for local food and wine.

Day 2: Vienna – Bratislava (68 km)
Just outside Vienna an untouched alluvial landscape and a nature reserve of remarkable flora and fauna open up before you. You will ride through peaceful woodland to the Archaeological Park of Carnuntum, then follow the river to Bratislava, a city that charms with its old town and its modern skyline.

Day 3: Bratislava – Mosonmagyaróvár (45 km)
Today you will pedal into the marshy Szigetköz, a paradise for birds and fish. Among more than 500 tiny islands you will find quiet farming villages and a labyrinth of Danube canals and creeks, before reaching Mosonmagyaróvár, a tidy little town with a lovely old centre and a castle.

Day 4: Mosonmagyaróvár – Komárno (88 km)
You will ride once more through the delightful Szigetköz on your way to Győr, one of the most important cities of the Hungarian lowlands, where baroque lanes, churches and palaces invite a stroll. If you prefer, you can take the train between Győr and Komárno, which shortens the day to about 45 km.

Day 5: Komárno – Danube Bend (57 km)
Following the banks of the Slovakian Danube on small, low-traffic roads, you will pass through timeless villages and the Roman fort of Kelemantia on your way to Esztergom, the "Town of Bishops and Kings," home to the largest Catholic church in Hungary.

Day 6: Danube Bend – Budapest (69 km)
The hilly Danube Bend will enchant you as you cycle through idyllic villages and discover the artist town of Szentendre and its nearby Farm Museum. You will enjoy sweeping views on your ride toward Budapest. Depending on the season the stage ends with a ship ride; outside the boat season a train ride takes its place.

Day 7: Budapest
Your tour ends in the Hungarian capital. Spend the day exploring Budapest before your departure. If you wish, direct trains run to Vienna every hour, with a journey time of about three hours.

The Customer may withdraw from the contract (cancel) at any time prior to commencement of the tour. Cancellation must be effected in writing. In the event of cancellation or no-show the following cancellation fees shall become due in relation to the tour price:

Up to the 28th day prior to departure 20%, however at least 50.- euros per person.

From the 27th day until the 14th day prior to departure 30%.

From the 13th day until the 8th day prior to departure 50%.

From the 7th until the 4th day prior to departure 70%.

From the 3rd day or with no-show for the tour 90%.
