Short Description

Six lakes, six nights, and a circle through Carinthia — the sun-drenched south of Austria where the Alps ease into rolling hills and turquoise water. You will begin and end in Villach, riding a loop that links some of the most beautiful lakes in the country. You will follow cycle paths along the shores of Millstätter See, climb gently to the pristine Weißensee — one of the purest bathing lakes in Europe — and descend through the Drava Valley to the emerald Faaker See, often called the Caribbean of Carinthia. The route continues through the idyllic Keutschacher Seental to the famous Wörthersee before looping north past Ossiacher See back to Villach. The Mediterranean influence on Austria's southern edge makes this region ideal for cycling from April to October. The terrain is predominantly flat, following well-maintained cycle paths along lakeshores and river valleys, with only gentle hills in places. This is a tour for those who love water, warmth, and the quiet rhythm of a lakeside road.

Tour Program

Day 1: Arrival in Villach
You will arrive in Villach, the capital of Carinthia, and check into your hotel. Parking is available nearby. The evening is yours to explore this compact, welcoming town at the confluence of the Drava and Gail rivers.

Day 2: Villach – Seeboden (48 km)
The ride heads north along a cycle path that hugs the southern shore of Millstätter See, a lake almost entirely free of roads and surrounded by untouched forest. You will pass through typical Carinthian villages like Döbriach, set directly on the waterfront. The northern shore takes you along the lake itself before arriving in Seeboden, your overnight stop.

Day 3: Millstätter See – Weißensee – Spittal an der Drau (70 km)
You will leave Millstätter See and cross the Drava Valley to Greifenburg, then begin a gentle climb to Weißensee. If the ascent feels too steep, a transfer is included. Once at the lake, a short boat ride — also included — carries you across the water. From there, you will cycle down through the Drava Valley to your overnight destination.

Day 4: Spittal an der Drau – Faaker See (45 km)
From the Drava Valley you will head south toward one of Carinthia's hidden gems: Faaker See. Not large, but strikingly warm and turquoise, the lake is framed by the Karawanken mountains. The route passes through traditional Carinthian villages and back through Villach before reaching the lake. A swim at the end of the day is hard to resist.

Day 5: Faaker See – Klagenfurt (45 km)
You will ride a short stretch along the Drava before turning toward Wörthersee, Carinthia's most famous lake. Before reaching it, the road detours through the Keutschacher Seental — an idyllic valley dotted with small lakes that line the route like a string of pearls. The day ends in Klagenfurt, the regional capital, whose Renaissance old town is rich with Mediterranean atmosphere, museums, and views from the parish church tower.

Day 6: Klagenfurt – Ossiacher See – Villach (50 km)
The final stage takes you north from Klagenfurt toward Feldkirchen, then west to Ossiacher See — the third-largest lake in Carinthia after Wörthersee and Millstättersee. Its dark green water is set against a gentle mountain backdrop, with lakeside spa towns and the romantic monastery of Ossiach along the shore. From here, you will ride the last kilometres back to Villach, completing the loop.

Day 7: Departure
Your tour ends after breakfast. You may choose to extend your stay in Carinthia.
