From Bressanone to Milan: Cycling from Alto Adige to Lombardy

Day 1: Arrival in Bressanone

Day 2: Bressanone – Caldaro/Mendola (approx. 60 km; +320/−465 m)
Your first stage will carry you through the green Isarco Valley, known for its vineyards. You will pedal through Bolzano, the vibrant capital of Alto Adige, a city famous for its blend of Italian and German culture. Continuing along the Alto Adige Wine Road, you will pass enchanting villages and reach the Mendola Pass area before arriving in Caldaro, famous for its picturesque lake and fine wines — the perfect spot to unwind after a day in the saddle.

Day 3: Caldaro/Mendola – Passo Tonale – Ponte di Legno (approx. 70 km; +1,750/−995 m)
The day begins with the funicular up to the Mendola Pass (ticket included), where your ride towards Ponte di Legno starts. You will ride through the Val di Non, a region celebrated for its apple orchards (with spectacular blossom in May) and its many medieval castles, with the Brenta Dolomites forming a dramatic backdrop. You will cross the Tonale Pass, with an included transfer on the Tonale section, and end the day in Ponte di Legno.

Day 4: Ponte di Legno – Darfo Boario Terme (approx. 70 km; +355/−1,065 m)
Today you will discover the Val Camonica, a UNESCO MAB Biosphere Reserve renowned for its ancient rock carvings — more than 300,000, preserved in seven archaeological parks. Imposing medieval fortresses punctuate the valley as you ride. Your destination is Darfo Boario Terme, celebrated for its thermal springs — a wonderful blend of nature, history, and relaxation.

Day 5: Darfo Boario Terme – Bergamo (approx. 70 km; +420/−400 m)
From Darfo Boario Terme you will ride to the picturesque shores of Lake Iseo, where tranquil waters mirror the surrounding mountains. The route then winds through the Valle Cavallina, along the shores of Lake Gaiano and Lake Endine, dotted with old villages, medieval towers and castles. The day culminates in Bergamo, where you will ride into the Città Alta with its ancient walls (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and medieval lanes.

Day 6: Bergamo – Milan (approx. 90 km; +135/−245 m)
Your final stage takes you from Bergamo to the Serio River and its nature park, past the castles of Cavernago and Malpaga. The Serio cycle paths lead to the medieval village of Cologno al Serio, entirely enclosed by walls and an ancient moat. After a stretch of farmland on the Po plain, you will cross the Adda River on a picturesque footbridge to reach the Naviglio Martesana, an old waterway on which Leonardo da Vinci also worked. Its cycle path carries you straight into the heart of Milan, along the historic canals that tell the story of the city's commercial and artistic heritage.
