Alpe Adria: Villach to Trieste

Day 1: Arrival in Villach
You will arrive independently in Villach. Parking is possible near the hotel.

Day 2: Villach – Tarvisio/Camporosso (approx. 40 km)
Following the river Gail, you will leave Villach and cross into Italy after just a few kilometres. Where the territories of Italy, Austria, and Slovenia meet, you will enter the Canal Valley with its centre Tarvisio, a town where diverse cultures have intermingled for centuries.

Day 3: Tarvisio/Camporosso – Tolmezzo/Venzone (approx. 55 km)
From Tarvisio, surrounded by wide valleys and forests, you will set out through one of the principal mountain areas of Friuli Venezia Giulia. Riding through the Canal Valley, you will admire the beauty of the Friulian Alps and the unspoilt nature of dense woodlands.

Day 4: Tolmezzo/Venzone – Udine (approx. 60 km)
You will soon reach Gemona, one of the most beautiful historic towns in Friuli, marked by the majestic Duomo of Santa Maria Assunta. The route follows local wine country, lined with lush vineyards. The stage ends in Udine, a city shaped by Venetian influence, where you can enjoy a coffee in the Piazza or admire late-Gothic and Renaissance masterpieces.

Day 5: Udine – Grado (approx. 55 km)
Accompanied by the Scirocco wind, you will ride through characteristic landscapes to Grado, once a fishing town and now a popular Adriatic seaside resort. Along the way, Palmanova (UNESCO World Heritage) and the excavation areas of ancient Aquileia await your visit.

Day 6: Grado – Free day at the seaside or Aquileia
The choice is yours: an exciting day visiting Aquileia — the so-called “Second Rome” — with its Roman ruins, ancient churches, and solitary landscapes at the edge of the lagoon; or a relaxing day on the long sandy beaches soaking up the warm sun.

Day 7: Grado – Trieste (approx. 40 km + train, or approx. 70 km)
The rugged Karst landscape will accompany you through the hinterland towards the Adriatic. Following a coastal stretch of breathtaking beauty, you will ride towards Miramare Castle, which invites a visit before you enter the former Habsburg city of Trieste. The historic port is a fitting conclusion to this cycling tour. If you prefer, you can shorten the stage from Monfalcone by train (ticket not included).

Day 8: Departure from Trieste
You will depart individually.
