What bike should I bring or rent?

A trekking bike handles the mix of paved paths and occasional gravel sections well. E-bikes are available for those who want extra support on the uphill sections.

Is the return transfer included?

Yes, a bus transfer from Grado back to Mallnitz is included on Saturdays and Sundays (full season). On other departure days, own return to Mallnitz is required.

What if I don't need the return transfer?

A deduction of €55 per person is applied if you choose not to use the included return bus transfer.

Can I transport my own bike on the return bus?

Yes, for an additional fee of €38 (must be booked in advance). Bike and rider travel together on the bus. Own bikes with a rim width over 5 cm are accepted only on request.

Is parking available in Mallnitz?

Yes, free unguarded parking at the hotel or a nearby public car park (3-minute walk) is included.

Are meals included beyond breakfast?

A welcome dinner on the arrival day in Mallnitz is included. Additional half-board (3 dinners, not available in Spittal and Grado) can be added as an upgrade.

Short Description

Cross the Alps from Austria to the Adriatic Sea — 313 km from Mallnitz to the sun-drenched lagoon town of Grado. Ride through two countries on the legendary Alpe Adria cycle path, past Villach, Tarvisio, Udine, and Roman Aquileia.

Tour Program

Day 1 — Arrival in Mallnitz
Arrive at your 3-star hotel nestled in the Hohe Tauern mountains. Collect your travel documents and rental bike (if booked). Free parking is available at the hotel or the nearby public car park. Enjoy a welcome dinner at the hotel.

Day 2 — Mallnitz to Spittal/Seeboden (54 km)
Follow the Alpe-Adria cycle path along the valley floor to Obervellach and into the Drava valley. Pass Möllbrücke and continue to Seeboden on Lake Millstatt. If time allows, take the scenic, car-free lakeside detour to Sappl before returning to your 4-star hotel.

Day 3 — Spittal/Seeboden to Tarvisio (69 km, 312 m elevation)
A flat, car-free route along the Drava River via Paternion to Villach and its picturesque old town. From here, the path climbs gently along the Gail River through Arnoldstein to the Italian border town of Tarvisio, beautifully set among alpine peaks.

Day 4 — Tarvisio to Carnia/Osoppo (59–64 km)
Cycle through the heart of the Alpe-Adria route — a car-free path along the old railway line through the narrow Fella valley to Pontebba. Continue south through the dramatic pre-Alpine landscape to your overnight stop in the Carnia region.

Day 5 — Carnia/Osoppo to Udine (58–63 km)
Ride near the Tagliamento River through the fertile Friuli countryside, passing Buia and small villages on your way to Udine. Explore this magnificent trading city — Piazza della Libertà, the Duomo, and the atmospheric old town.

Day 6 — Udine to Grado (63 km)
Cross the Friuli plains through romantic villages to Palmanova, the perfectly preserved Venetian star-fortress. Continue via Cervignano to Aquileia, the former Roman imperial capital and UNESCO World Heritage Site. A scenic lagoon crossing delivers you to the sun-drenched island town of Grado.

Day 7 — Departure
End of tour. Return transfer by bus from Grado to Mallnitz is included on Saturdays and Sundays (departure from central piazza, arrival approx. 1:00–3:00 PM). On other days, own return journey to Mallnitz. Alternatively, book additional nights in Grado.
