🙋 Common questions
How difficult is this tour?
A moderate tour for regular cyclists. The main climbs are on Day 2 (350 m, which can be shortened by train) and Day 5 (253 m); the Tauern mountains are crossed by train or bus, and from Tarvisio the route is mostly downhill or flat to the Adriatic.
How does the Tauern crossing work?
From 7 July the train ticket Schwarzach-St. Veit – Böckstein (bike ticket approx. €3.50 on site) and the Tauern shuttle train Böckstein – Mallnitz with your bike are included. For arrivals from 7 May to 4 July the Tauern tunnel is closed and an ÖBB bus with your bike from Schwarzach-St. Veit to Mallnitz is included instead.
Is the return transfer from Grado to Salzburg included?
No, it can be booked at extra cost (€75 per person). A direct bus runs on Fridays and Sundays from 15 May to 23 October; from 10 July there is also a Saturday option by bus to Mallnitz and reserved train to Salzburg. On other days you arrange your own return.
Can I bring my own bike?
Yes. Return transport of your own bike costs €40 and must be booked in advance. On the Friday and Sunday bus your bike travels with you; otherwise bikes are dropped off on Friday at 16:30 in Grado and are ready at the arrival hotel in Salzburg on Saturday from about 15:00.
Is car parking available?
Yes. An unguarded private parking space at the hotel in Salzburg, or a 15-minute walk away, is included for the whole tour, including any additional nights.
Are meals included?
Breakfast is included daily. Half board (4 three-course dinners) can be added for €118 per person.
When can I start?
