Alpe Adria: Lake Chiemsee to Lignano

Day 1: Arrival at Lake Chiemsee
You will arrive individually at your first hotel on the Chiemsee, known as the "Bavarian Sea" and the largest lake in the region. Just 80 km from Munich, it is known for its natural landscape, its watersports and its cultural life.

Day 2: Chiemsee – St. Johann in Tirol (60 km, +690 m / −550 m)
Leaving the lake behind, the first stage takes you through genuinely picturesque and varied country to the baroque town of St. Johann in Tirol, a lively regional hub set between the Kitzbüheler Horn and the Wilder Kaiser.

Day 3: St. Johann in Tirol – Zell am See (55 km, +450 m / −360 m)
Hochfilzen is the first notable stop of the day: biathlon followers will know the venue, which hosts a World Cup round in front of thousands of spectators every year. The route continues to Saalfelden am Steinernen Meer, the third town of the Salzburg province, before reaching Zell am See on its peninsula on the shore of Lake Zell, close to the Kitzsteinhorn glacier.

Day 4: Zell am See – Matrei in Osttirol (50 km + transfer, +200 m / −670 m)
Today you follow the Tauern cycle path, a paradise for cyclists of every age, towards Mittersill. The peaks of the Hohe Tauern rise to the south — fortunately you will not have to climb them. A transfer takes you straight into the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park before a largely downhill ride from the Matreier Tauernhaus to Matrei in East Tyrol.

Day 5: Matrei in Osttirol – Oberdrauburg/Kötschach-Mauthen (65 km, +50 m / −360 m)
The cycle path runs through the idyllic Iseltal to the sunny town of Lienz, in the far south of Austria near the Italian border. At Lienz you join the well-known Drava cycle path and head for Oberdrauburg. If you are staying in Kötschach-Mauthen, an included transfer takes you over the Gailbergpass.

Day 6: Oberdrauburg/Kötschach-Mauthen – Tolmezzo/Venzone (55 km, +50 m / −790 m)
The day begins with the transfer to the Plöcken Pass on the Italian border. A series of hairpins brings you down the pass road to Paluzza. Past the spa town of Arta Terme and the Roman excavations of Zuglio, the route reaches Tolmezzo and then Venzone, rebuilt after the devastating earthquake and today listed among the most beautiful villages in Italy.

Day 7: Tolmezzo/Venzone – Spilimbergo (57 km, +350 m / −540 m)
From Tolmezzo you follow the cycle path towards Cavazzo Carnico and Pioverno, where you can either cross the bridge over the Tagliamento to visit Venzone and its medieval architecture, or stay on the main road. The main route continues via Bordano, Trasaghis, the strikingly turquoise Lago di Cornino, Flagogna and Pinzano, with wide views over the Tagliamento. The stage ends in Spilimbergo, the "City of Mosaic", home to the Friuli Mosaic School.

Day 8: Spilimbergo – Lignano (70 km, +30 m / −160 m)
The demanding climbs are behind you. With the Tagliamento as a constant companion you ride through the Friulian countryside towards the sea. The river, a battleground in the First World War, meets the Adriatic at Lignano, where the long sandy beaches bring this crossing to a close.

Day 9: Departure
Your tour ends after breakfast. You may choose to extend your stay on the Adriatic coast.
