Cycle Vienna and the Wachau Valley on this 7-day self-guided tour along the Austrian Danube. Glide past imperial palaces and coffee-house squares, then swap the city for terraced vineyards, apricot orchards and the wine towns of a UNESCO World Heritage landscape.

Tour Program

Day 1: Vienna – Arrival
You will arrive in Vienna and settle into your hotel beside the Danube. The rest of the day is yours: ride the metro to St. Stephen's Cathedral, only a few minutes away, and let the imperial city introduce itself over a coffee.

Days 2–3: Day rides from Vienna
For two days Vienna is your base, and you choose your route each morning.
– _Habsburg Tour (approx. 36 km):_ You will follow the traces of the old empire, from the Ringstrasse and the Hofburg to the Imperial Treasury and the Sisi Museum, finishing at the gardens of Schönbrunn Palace.
– _Green Oases Tour (approx. 40 km):_ A gentle loop through the city's parks and gardens — the Prater, the Belvedere botanical gardens and the baroque Augarten — with traditional wine taverns waiting in the north.
– _National Park Donau-Auen Tour (approx. 60 km):_ You will ride east into the Donau-Auen National Park, the last great river floodplain of central Europe, and return along the Danube Island.

Day 4: Vienna to Krems – the wine town of Krems (train Vienna–Krems, bike included)
You will take the train out of Vienna, your bike travelling with you, into the UNESCO World Heritage Wachau. The day belongs to Krems: an included wine tasting at a Krems winery, then a stroll through the pedestrian old town past the Steiner Gate, the Piarist Church and the cathedral. If your legs are restless, a vineyard walk climbs above the town.

Days 5–6: Day rides from the Wachau
From your Wachau base you explore the valley by bike.
– _Melk – Spitz – Weißenkirchen – Dürnstein – Krems (approx. 37 km; cruise Krems–Melk included, day 5 only):_ A boat carries you and your bike upriver to Melk and its magnificent abbey; from there you cycle back through wine villages to Dürnstein, with the castle ruins where Richard the Lionheart was once held.
– _Traisental cycle path: Krems – Herzogenburg – Göttweig – Krems (approx. 52 km):_ You will ride past vineyards and wheat fields to the Augustinian monastery of Herzogenburg and up the steep climb to Göttweig Abbey, rewarded by sweeping views over the Danube.

Day 7: Krems/Mautern – Departure
Your tour ends after breakfast in Krems/Mautern. You can extend your stay in the Wachau or begin your journey home.
