Short Description

Follow the brand-new VéloSud cycle route from the Atlantic coast to the Pyrenees on this 6-night self-guided tour. Starting in Biarritz, you will ride through the Basque Country and Béarn with the peaks of the Pyrenees as your backdrop. The route links Bayonne's Vauban ramparts to the salt springs of Salies-de-Béarn, the medieval bridge of Orthez, the royal castle of Pau, and finally the world-famous pilgrimage sanctuary of Lourdes at the foot of the mountains.

Tour Program

Day 1: Arrival in Biarritz
Arrive at your hotel in Biarritz with its magnificent ocean beaches, world-class surfing, and vibrant restaurant scene.

Day 2: Biarritz – Urt (31 km; +150 m)
Ride along the Atlantic cliffs and beaches of Anglet. The Adour guides you to Bayonne with its Vauban ramparts and Sainte-Marie Cathedral. Continue to the small river port of Urt.

Day 3: Urt – Salies-de-Béarn (47 km; +265 m)
Follow the Adour and Bidouze rivers through Pyrenean foothills. Pass the Château de Gramont in Bidache. End in Salies-de-Béarn, a charming spa town with healing salt springs.

Day 4: Salies-de-Béarn – Orthez (37 km; +525 m)
Detour to Sauveterre-de-Béarn, one of France's most beautiful villages, with its Pont de la Légende. Continue to Orthez, former capital of Béarn, with its fourteenth-century Pont Vieux.

Day 5: Orthez – Pau (55 km; +230 m)
A peaceful ride along the Gave de Pau to the regional capital. Pau is renowned for its castle and the Boulevard des Pyrénées with spectacular mountain views.

Day 6: Pau – Lourdes (50 km; +535 m)
Ride through the bastide village of Nay, visit the Sanctuary of Bétharram and the Bétharram Caves. Follow the Gave de Pau to Lourdes and its world-famous Sanctuary.

Day 7: Departure
Departure after breakfast.
