Porto to Coimbra Bike Tour

Day 1: Porto
You will arrive in Porto, where a transfer from the airport will bring you to your hotel in the heart of the city. Porto is a World Heritage city, a historic jewel with more than 150 listed monuments. Walk down to the medieval Ribeira quarter by the river, cycle along the riverbank past the Eiffel bridge to the Port Wine lodges on the southern bank of the Douro, and end the day with dinner in one of the city's many fine restaurants.

Day 2: Porto – Furadouro (42 km; +213 m)
Today you will leave the city behind and head for the peace of the Atlantic coast. You will pedal through small seaside towns nestled along the shore and through fragrant pine forests. The day ends in Furadouro, a welcoming fishing town renowned for its excellent fresh fish.

Day 3: Furadouro – Aveiro (41 km; +115 m)
A pleasant ride through the protected Natural Reserve of the São Jacinto dunes and along the Aveiro Ria will carry you to Aveiro, known as the "Venice of Portugal" for its canals and colourful Moliceiro boats. If you have time, you can glide through the waterways on one of these hand-painted wooden boats, join a workshop to make a typical Aveiro pastry, and visit the salt pans to soak your feet in small tubs of sea salt. The ferry from São Jacinto to Barra is not included and is paid on the spot.

Day 4: Aveiro – Mira (35 km; +95 m)
Today blends beaches, pine forests, and riverside paths. Mira, your overnight stop, is a small fishing village where colourful boats were once hauled ashore by oxen. The multicoloured striped houses and the friendliness of the locals will charm you. Be sure to visit the fishing village of Praia de Mira with its colourful wooden houses called palheiros, and taste the local specialities made with fresh fish.

Day 5: Mira – Figueira da Foz (58 km; +360 m)
The longest stage takes you south along the Portuguese silver coast to Figueira da Foz. You will cycle on a cycleway following the Estrada Atlântica, between long beaches and a big pine forest, past the tranquil village of Praia da Tocha and its huge golden sand beach. Figueira da Foz, known for its golden sandy beach, is the ideal place to rest.

Day 6: Figueira da Foz – Coimbra (45 km; +132 m)
You will follow the Mondego River inland through lush rice fields and green countryside all the way to Coimbra. The historic centre of this university city cascades down its hillside in a colourful patchwork of centuries-old buildings. Coimbra is home to one of Europe's oldest universities — second only to Bologna — and on summer evenings the narrow streets echo with the haunting notes of the local Fado tradition.

Day 7: Coimbra – Porto
After breakfast, a transfer will bring you back to Porto airport. Your tour ends here.
