Short Description

An 8-day family-friendly cycling holiday in Portugal's Minho region, covering 96 km on flat riverside paths. Perfect for families with children — short daily rides through vineyards and historic towns. From €1,464 per person.

Tour Program

Day 1: Arrival in Monção — Gateway to the Alvarinho country

You will be welcomed at Porto airport and transferred north to Monção, a peaceful riverside town framed by vineyards and rolling green hills. Once settled into your cozy rural hotel, you will relax by the pool or explore the gardens while the children unwind. A gentle stroll through the medieval walls, quiet squares and riverside paths will introduce you to the town's thermal heritage and to Alvarinho wine, grown nearby at the elegant Brejoeira Palace — a serene prelude to the days ahead.

Day 2: Monção — Nature, rivers and family discoveries

You will spend the day exploring Monção at a relaxed pace, cycling through tree-shaded parks and trails overlooking the river or simply enjoying the town's peaceful gardens. In the morning, you will have the chance to try an optional rafting experience on the gentle Minho River — a safe, playful adventure for beginners and children over 6 years old. Later, you will visit a local Alvarinho estate for a guided wine tasting and discover how tradition and modern winemaking meet in one of Portugal's most loved wine regions.

Day 3: Monção – Vila Nova de Cerveira (35 km; +234 m)

Today you will follow a scenic cycling path built on a former railway line, tracing the River Minho as it flows west toward the ocean. You will ride through quiet villages, cornfields and the vineyards that give Vinho Verde its unmistakable character. Along the way, you will encounter the historic fortresses of Valença and Vila Nova de Cerveira — powerful reminders of the long border history between Portugal and Spain. In Cerveira, known as the "Town of the Arts", you will explore a medieval centre dotted with sculptures, artisan workshops and a sunny main square perfect for ice cream before dinner.

Day 4: Valença & Vila Nova de Cerveira (31 km; +199 m)

This day offers two distinct experiences. You will ride to Valença to explore its remarkable fortress — one of the most impressive in Portugal — where double walls and bastions reveal a rich military past, and narrow streets lead to lively shops and local cafés. Later, you will choose your own adventure: a serene canoe trip along the Minho River, perfect for families, or a thrilling 4WD mountain journey unveiling the natural beauty and traditional lifestyle of the Minho countryside. Expect stunning scenery, hidden villages and an authentic connection to the land.

Day 5: Caminha – Viana do Castelo (30 km; +203 m)

You will begin the day on a scenic river cruise from Vila Nova de Cerveira to Caminha, gliding along the natural border between Portugal and Spain, past green islands and golden sandbanks where herons, wild ducks and kingfishers watch you pass. From Caminha, you will cycle along the Atlantic Coast, where fishing villages and sandy beaches invite a break to play or swim. You will stop at Afife or Carreço beach, visit the lighthouse of Montedor and reach Viana do Castelo — a lively coastal town full of charm, cafés and seaside energy. A short guided walk will introduce its most beautiful spots and viewpoints.

Day 6: Viana do Castelo — Where the river meets the sea

Today you will ride the Santa Luzia cable car — the longest in Portugal — up to the basilica for spectacular views of the city, the river and the Atlantic. Families seeking an active connection with the ocean will love an optional surf class on the waves of the Atlantic, with all equipment provided. Back in town, you will stroll along the marina, watch fishing boats return from sea and visit the Gil Eanes Hospital ship, now a fascinating floating museum that reveals the stories of sailors and explorers — the perfect farewell to a week filled with discovery and laughter.

Day 7: Barcelos & Viana do Castelo — Traditions, colours and creative encounters

You will end your holiday with one last adventure, travelling to Barcelos to visit its famous Thursday market — one of the oldest in Portugal and a true celebration of local life. Families will wander among stalls of handmade ceramics, baskets and local treats — a feast for the senses. After exploring the market, you will have the chance to join an optional fun rooster-painting workshop led by a local artisan, where each family member can create their own version of Portugal's lucky symbol. You will then return by train to Viana do Castelo for a relaxing final evening by the sea.

Day 8: End of the Minho Family Bike Holiday

After breakfast, you will be transferred from your hotel to Porto airport according to your flight schedule, carrying home the shared memories and discoveries of your family adventure in northern Portugal.
