Danube Delta Bike and Boat Cycling Tour

For eight days, a comfortable hotel boat is your floating home as you cycle deep into Europe's last natural paradise. You will pedal along canals lined with floating reed islands, past fishing villages where time seems to stand still, and follow the Danube all the way to kilometer "0", where it dissolves into the Black Sea. Under the guidance of an experienced bike and wildlife guide, you will learn to spot Dalmatian pelicans, cormorants and egrets, and discover a UNESCO World Heritage landscape that is as rich in history as it is in wildlife. Full board is included throughout, on board the solar-powered hotel boat and in a cosy 4-star guesthouse in Tulcea.

Day 1: Bucharest
Individual arrival in Bucharest. In the early afternoon, a bus transfer of about four hours takes you to Tulcea, the gateway to the Danube Delta, where you board your hotel boat. Dinner and overnight on board.

Day 2: Nufaru – Sfantu Gheorghe, approx. 31 km
You ride along the southernmost arm of the Danube, through the Bestepe Hills nature reserve, with wide views deep into the Delta. At the small fishing village of Murighiol, you leave the bike behind for a boat ride into a maze of channels, floating islands and dense forest — a true wilderness experience. Overnight on the hotel boat.

Day 3: The journey to kilometer "0", approx. 25 km
A bumpy gravel track runs between the open Black Sea on one side and lush green reeds and marshland on the other. Cormorants and great white egrets keep you company as you reach kilometer "0" at Sulina, where the Danube's long journey ends at the lighthouse and the river begins to merge with the sea. Overnight on the hotel boat.

Day 4: Gulf of Musura – Crisan, approx. 23 km
The route follows the bird paradise of Musura Bay to the picturesque village of Letea, where houses of reed and loam, painted in blue, seem untouched by time. Nearby, on a sandbank, a small tropical forest of climbing plants and lianas is a curious wonder of nature. A boat completes the journey to the fishing village of Crisan. Overnight on the hotel boat.

Day 5: The fauna and flora of the Danube Delta (day of rest)
A cruise through a labyrinth of narrow waterways brings you past small fishing villages, deep into the diversity of the UNESCO World Heritage Danube Delta. In the afternoon, you return to the lively town of Tulcea. Overnight on the hotel boat.

Day 6: Monasteries of the Dobrogea, approx. 26 km
A round trip through gently rolling countryside leads to the orthodox monastery of Celic Dere, the largest convent in the Dobrogea region, and to Saon, a monastery with a distinctive windmill set among vineyards on the Danube bank. A ridge above Saon offers a sweeping view over the green floodplain towards the Ukrainian border. Transfer back to Tulcea for an overnight stay at the 4-star guesthouse.

Day 7: Lagoon tour to Cape Dolosman, approx. 42 km
A bus takes you to the old town of Ceamurlia de Jos. From the Cape Dolosman nature reserve, with the Greek-Roman ruins of Argamum, you cycle to the medieval fortress of Enisala, perched high above the Danube with a breathtaking view over Lake Razim. Overnight at the 4-star guesthouse in Tulcea.

Day 8: Transfer Tulcea – Bucharest
After breakfast, a bus transfer brings you back to Bucharest, arriving at the airport around 2 p.m. Flights should not be booked before 4 p.m.; extra nights in Tulcea or Bucharest can be added on request.
