Short Description

Pedal from Sacile to Gorizia along the Pedemontana cycleway through Friuli's UNESCO sites, medieval villages, and wine hills. A 159 km ride on scenic cycle paths past knife-making Maniago and historic Cividale del Friuli.

Tour Program

Day 1: Arrival in Sacile
You will arrive individually in Sacile, a charming town laced with the waters of the Livenza river. Its graceful Venetian atmosphere earned it the nickname "Garden of the Serenissima." Stroll through the historic centre and soak in the tranquil elegance of this hidden gem before your cycling adventure begins.

Day 2: Sacile – Maniago (approx. 37 km)
Your first ride will take you into the Pordenone foothills, past the UNESCO-listed pile dwelling site of Palù di Livenza. You will reach Polcenigo, a village famous for basket-weaving and dominated by the springs of the Gorgazzo. Pedalling onward past Aviano and its ancient castle, you will enjoy spectacular mountain views before arriving in Maniago, the legendary city of knives.

Day 3: Maniago – Gemona del Friuli (approx. 48 km)
Today you will ride through Fanna, home to the Madonna di Strada, one of Friuli's oldest Marian sanctuaries. The route continues to Cavasso Nuovo, birthplace of the DOP red onion, and Meduno, gateway to the Meduna and Tramontina valleys. You will pass through Toppo, listed among Italy's most beautiful villages, then cycle alongside the Tagliamento river before crossing the Braulinis bridge into Gemona.

Day 4: Gemona del Friuli – Cividale del Friuli (approx. 40 km)
From Gemona you will pedal towards Artegna, where medieval lanes wind beneath the imposing Castello Savorgnan. The route leads through the Friulian countryside via Magnano in Riviera and Tarcento, then over gentle hills through Povoletto. Your destination is Cividale del Friuli, a UNESCO World Heritage site where the Lombard Temple, the Celtic Hypogeum, and the iconic Devil's Bridge await.

Day 5: Cividale del Friuli – Gorizia (approx. 34 km)
You will ride to San Giovanni al Natisone and on to Cormons, a small town of Austro-Hungarian origin nestled at the foot of Monte Quarin. From here you will enter the DOC Friuli Colli Orientali and DOC Collio wine districts, pedalling through Capriva del Friuli past the Castello di Spessa and the Preval nature reserve. Your journey ends in Gorizia, together with Nova Gorica the European Capital of Culture 2025.
