No. There is no room for guest bikes on deck, and the operator runs this week as an e-bike only tour. Everyone rides a rental e-bike, which costs 287 EUR per person for the whole period and is booked in advance, on top of the tour price.

How demanding is the cycling?

It is graded easy. The short routes run between 28 and 58 km, the terrain is flat, and you are on an e-bike with a 400Wh battery and three levels of assistance. A tour leader sets the pace for the group. If you would rather not ride on a given day, you stay on board and the ship takes you to the next mooring.

Which meals are included?

Seven breakfasts, a packed lunch every day and six three-course dinners on board. On the evening in Sens there is no dinner on board, so you choose a restaurant in town at your own cost. Coffee and tea are free on board around the clock.

Is there a guide, or do I follow a route sheet?

A multilingual tour leader cycles with you every day and explains what you are looking at. From 18 guests the group is split in two, each with its own leader. GPS tracks are provided as well.

How do I get to Auxerre and home from Moret?

Trains run all day from Paris Gare de Lyon to Auxerre and take about 2 hours 30 minutes. Coming back, Moret-Veneux-les-Sablons is about 45 minutes from Gare de Lyon. Timetables are on sncf.com.

Can I do the same week in the other direction?

Yes. The same itinerary is sold from Moret-sur-Loing up to Auxerre on alternating departure dates, with the same ship, the same inclusions and the same visits in reverse order.

What is the ship like?

A premium barge with twelve cabins and a maximum of 24 guests. Cabins are air-conditioned and cleaned daily, bed linen and towels are provided, and there is a sundeck and Wi-Fi on board.

Short Description

A week on the water and in the saddle, from Auxerre down to Moret-sur-Loing. You sleep on the same premium barge for seven nights and it moves to a new mooring every day, so you unpack once. Each cycling day you ride out with a tour leader along the Yonne, on towpaths and quiet lanes. The terrain is flat, the pace is calm and the e-bike takes care of the few slopes. Distances are short enough to leave time for a cathedral, a wine cellar or a market square before dinner on board.

Tour Program

Day 1 – Auxerre (0 km)
Boarding and check-in from 2pm. The captain, crew and tour leader welcome you, then you are fitted to your bike. Dinner is served on board. The evening is yours: Auxerre has streets of 16th-century timbered houses, an old harbour on the Yonne and the Gothic cathedral of Saint-Etienne.

Day 2 – Auxerre and the Bailly cellars (51 km)
You can stay on board and take Auxerre at your own pace, or ride out with the guide along the Yonne to the Caves de Bailly, where sparkling Cremant de Bourgogne matures in old limestone quarries. The vineyards of Saint-Bris and Irancy are close by.

Day 3 – Auxerre to Joigny (58 km)
North through the Yonne valley, past Migennes where the Burgundy Canal meets the river. Joigny is a small wine town with renaissance facades and old churches. In the afternoon a loop through the local vineyards ends with a tasting of Burgundy wines.

Day 4 – Joigny to Villeneuve-sur-Yonne (46 km)
A loop around Joigny, a coffee stop in town, then on to Saint-Julien-du-Sault and its 13th-century church of Saint-Pierre, known for its stained glass. You moor for the night at Villeneuve, a quiet town with medieval gate towers and gardens along the water.

Day 5 – Villeneuve-sur-Yonne to Sens (28 km)
Two options today. The short route follows the Yonne. The longer one climbs into the hills to the cider museum, where you taste what they make. Sens is one of the oldest towns in France. There is no dinner on board tonight, so you eat in town.

Day 6 – Sens to Pont-sur-Yonne (29 km)
The morning starts in Sens with the cathedral of Saint-Etienne, the first of the great French Gothic cathedrals, visited with a local guide. Then a short ride to Pont-sur-Yonne, a small town on the river. The longer option runs through the Oreuse valley.

Day 7 – Pont-sur-Yonne to Montereau, then on to Moret (35 km)
Montereau stands where the Yonne meets the Seine, and the thousand-year-old collegiate church of Notre-Dame-et-Saint-Loup is worth the stop. You board again for a dinner cruise to Moret-sur-Loing, the medieval town Sisley painted. On some departures the ship sails to Montereau in the morning and the ride starts there.

Day 8 – Moret-sur-Loing (0 km)
A last breakfast on board with the group, then disembarkation until 9:30am.
