🙋 Common questions
What is the difficulty level of this tour?
This tour follows mostly flat canal towpaths and quiet country roads with moderate elevation changes of around 200 metres per day. The terrain is accessible to anyone with a reasonable fitness level. An e-bike option is available for extra comfort on the few gentle climbs.
What type of accommodation is provided?
You will stay in a mix of 3- and 4-star hotels and one charming guesthouse along the route. One night is in a 2-star hotel in Puy-Lévêque. All accommodations include breakfast, and two dinners are part of the package.
How do I get to Bordeaux and back from Cahors?
Bordeaux is easily reached by TGV high-speed train from Paris in around two hours, or via Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport. From Cahors, direct trains connect to Toulouse and Paris. You will need to plan your own travel to and from the start and end points.
What type of bike is best for this tour?
The route is predominantly on paved towpaths and quiet roads, so a touring bike is ideal. E-bikes and gravel bikes are also available for rent. Gravel bikes suit riders who prefer wider tyres for mixed surfaces.
When is the best time to do this tour?
The tour runs from April to October. Late spring and early autumn offer the most pleasant temperatures and quieter paths. July and August are warmer and busier but perfect for long summer evenings in the villages.
