🙋 Common questions
How difficult is cycling in Provence and the Rhône Valley?
On selected days you choose between a relaxed route (difficulty level 2-3) and a more challenging route for experienced cyclists (level 4). Daily distances run from 25 to 75 km over paved roads, gravel tracks and occasional sandy paths, with several longer climbs. Everyone rides an e-bike, and a support van accompanies the group on two cycling days.
When is the best time to cycle in Provence?
The season runs from spring to autumn; the departure dates are shown on this page.
How much does a boat and bike tour in Provence cost?
Prices vary by departure date and cabin type and are shown live on this page under Availability. The price includes seven nights on board with breakfast, lunches, six three-course dinners, tour leaders, the guided visit of Avignon with the Palais des Papes and entrance to the Pont du Gard.
Is this tour guided or self-guided?
It is fully guided. English-speaking tour leaders ride with the group on every cycling day, and the group is split so that relaxed and more advanced riders each follow a suitable route. Daily briefings on board explain the route ahead, and digital routes are also available through the Ride with GPS app.
Do I have to ride an e-bike on this tour?
Yes. This is an e-bike-only tour: every guest rides a premium e-bike, rented from the operator (the rental price is shown on this page). The e-bikes have at least seven gears, handbrakes, a 400Wh battery with three levels of assistance, adjustable gel seats and anti-puncture tyres. If you bring your own e-bike, a parking and charging place on board costs €35 per week.
Where do you sleep on a boat and bike tour in the Rhône Valley?
You sleep on board the MS Provence, a deluxe ship carrying a maximum of 46 guests in 23 cabins. Cabins are climate-controlled and cleaned daily, with bed linen and towels provided. The ship moves while you cycle or during the night, so you unpack once for the whole week and still wake up somewhere new each day.
Can the tour run in the opposite direction, from Lyon to Arles?
Yes. The same itinerary also runs from Lyon to Arles, with the stages reversed. The programme above describes the Arles to Lyon direction, and each direction has its own page with its own departure dates.
