🙋 Common questions
How much does a Provence and Camargue cycling tour cost?
This 8-day self-guided cycling tour in Provence and the Camargue starts from €1,056 per person in a double or twin room with 3-star hotels. The price includes seven nights with breakfast, luggage transfer, a navigation app with points of interest, a travel folder with maps, city taxes and a 7-day hotline. Solo travellers are welcome with a supplement, and bikes are rented separately.
When is the best time to cycle in Provence and the Camargue?
Departures run every day from 20 March to 16 October 2027, except 13 to 17 May and 17 to 19 September, during the Ferias of Nîmes. Spring and October are the lowest-priced periods, while 26 June to 18 July coincides with the Avignon Festival and carries the highest rates.
How difficult is cycling in the Camargue on this tour?
The tour is rated moderate. Daily stages range from 30 to 55 km. The Camargue days are almost flat, with 35 to 55 m of climbing, while the ride over Les Baux to Arles (+360 m) and the hilly last stage from Uzès to Avignon (up to +450 m) ask for more effort. An e-bike is available.
Where does the Provence and Camargue cycling tour start and end?
The loop starts and finishes in Avignon. From Paris, high-speed trains run from Gare de Lyon to Avignon TGV station, with a local train on to Avignon centre station. If you arrive by car, Avignon has underground car parks such as Palais des Papes, Les Halles and Centre Gare.
What wildlife can you see cycling through the Camargue?
The Camargue is a protected delta of water and marshes where the Rhône meets the Mediterranean, home to hundreds of bird species. The pink flamingo is its emblem. You will ride around the Vaccarès lake, where a picnic stop is a good chance to watch the birds, and past the pink salt pans of Aigues-Mortes.
Which Roman monuments will you see cycling in Provence?
You will see the Roman and medieval monuments of Arles, the amphitheatre, Maison Carrée and Tour Magne in Nîmes, and the Pont du Gard aqueduct. An optional visit package, not included in the base price, adds the Palais des Papes and Avignon Bridge, the Carrières des Lumières and Château des Baux, the ramparts of Aigues-Mortes, the Nîmes Arena and a wine tasting.
What accommodation is used on the Provence and Camargue bike tour?
You stay seven nights in a double or twin room with breakfast. The Classic category uses 3-star hotels and the Superior category 3-star and/or 4-star hotels. Lunches are not included: buy picnic supplies in the town you leave each morning, as village shops are often closed on Sundays and Mondays.
Can families with children cycle in the Camargue on this tour?
Yes, with the right equipment. A follow-me tandem for children aged 5 to 8, a trailer for children up to 25 kg and a rear baby seat for children up to 22 kg can be rented. Helmets are not provided and are mandatory under 12, so bring your own. Reduced prices apply to children sharing a room with two adults.
