Short Description

Three countries, one lake, and a cycling adventure the whole family will remember. This tour around Lake Constance — the Bodensee — follows the gentle shoreline through Austria, Switzerland, and Germany, connecting charming lakeside towns with nature reserves, sandy beaches, and ferry crossings that turn every day into a small expedition. You will begin and end in Bregenz, the Austrian city on the eastern shore where mountains meet the water. From here, you will pedal along flat, well-signposted paths through the Swiss towns of Rorschach and Arbon, cross into Germany at Constance, and continue to the Zeppelin city of Friedrichshafen. Along the way, the children will enjoy ice cream stops, ferry rides, a visit to the Zeppelin Museum, and the chance to swim in the lake's clear waters. With daily rides of just 32 to 40 km on flat terrain, this tour is perfectly paced for families. The paths are safe, the scenery is gentle and ever-changing, and the hotels are selected with young travellers in mind. A cycling holiday where three flags fly, the lake is always in sight, and every day brings a new shore to explore.

Tour Program

Day 1: Arrival in Bregenz
You will arrive in Bregenz, the Austrian city nestled between the Alps and Lake Constance. Pick up your travel documents and rental bikes at the info point hotel Weisses Kreuz. The rest of the day is yours to explore the lakefront promenade, the Festspielhaus, or simply settle in before tomorrow's first ride.

Day 2: Bregenz – Rorschach/Arbon (40 km)
You will cycle through the parks along the lake, past the Festspielhaus and the famous Seebühne floating stage. The route continues to Mehrerau, home to the only active monastery on Austria's Lake Constance, then past bathing spots along the Bregenzer Ache. You will cross through the Altenrhein-Mündung nature reserve to Staad and on to your overnight stop in Rorschach or Arbon on the Swiss shore.

Day 3: Rorschach/Arbon – Constance/Kreuzlingen (32 km)
Today you will ride along the picturesque Swiss shore of the lake, passing through Romanshorn and Güttingen to reach the Council City of Constance. An optional excursion to the nearby monastery island of Reichenau adds 15 km to the day. Constance straddles the Swiss-German border and offers a wonderful old town to explore with the family.

Day 4: Constance/Kreuzlingen – Friedrichshafen (33 km; ferry crossing)
You will spend the morning visiting the Mainau flower island, then take the ferry from Staad to Meersburg with your bikes. From there, you will cycle along the lake via Immenstaad to Friedrichshafen, home of the Zeppelin. The entry to the Zeppelin Museum is included — a highlight for children and adults alike.

Day 5: Friedrichshafen – Bregenz (35 km)
Your final cycling day begins at the Zeppelin Museum in Friedrichshafen. You will ride through the Eriskircher Ried nature reserve, past Langenargen and Wasserburg, to the famous Bavarian island town of Lindau. From Lindau, a short ride brings you back across the Austrian border to Bregenz, completing your loop around the lake.

Day 6: Departure
Journey home after breakfast, or extend your stay with additional nights in Bregenz.
