🙋 Common questions
How much does the Julian Alps lakes cycling tour cost?
The 2027 price starts from €985 per person in a double room (Season A), €1,065 in Season B and €1,135 in Season C. A single room within a party costs €370 extra, and a single traveller pays €440 including the single room. When is the best time to cycle the Julian Alps lakes?
You can start any day between 28 March and 10 October 2027. Season A (28 March – 1 May and 3–10 October) is the quietest and lowest-priced period, Season B covers 2 May – 14 August and 19 September – 2 October, and Season C, the peak, runs from 15 August to 18 September. The date of Day 1 sets the season.
Is the Julian Alps lakes tour suitable for families and beginners?
Yes. It is rated 1–2 of 4: the whole tour can be ridden at the easiest level using the shorter variants, or stepped up to level 2 with the longer ones. Stages run from 8 to 52 km on non-technical gravel and quiet lanes, and no mountain-biking experience is needed. Daily climbs reach up to 460 m on the short variants.
Can I rent a bike for the Julian Alps lakes tour?
Yes. Per-tour prices: standard touring bike €120, electric touring bike €300, gravel bike €250, standard MTB €190 and e-MTB €300, with helmet, repair kit and pump. Every rental includes a Standard Damage Waiver: the excess for accidental damage is €50 for a touring bike or €150 for other bikes, and an optional upgrade (€25/€50) reduces it to €0.
How do I get to Kranjska Gora and back from Bohinj?
Ljubljana, Trieste, Venice and Klagenfurt airports serve the region. One-way private transfers for 1–3 people cost €140 from Ljubljana Airport and €205 from Ljubljana city to Kranjska Gora. At the end, transfers from Bohinjska Bistrica cost €160 to Ljubljana Airport, €175 to Ljubljana city and €160 back to Kranjska Gora. Each bike adds €10.
Do I need a mountain bike for the Julian Alps lakes tour?
No. From 2027 the tour is a relaxed touring tour on non-technical gravel and quiet lanes, so a standard touring bike or an electric touring bike is ideal. Mountain bikes and e-MTBs are still available for rent if you prefer wider tyres for the optional Pokljuka gravel ride on Day 6.
Which lakes will I see on the Julian Alps cycling tour?
You will see Lake Jasna in Kranjska Gora, the Fusine Lakes just across the Italian border, Lake Kreda in the Radovna valley, Lake Bled with its island church, the Završnica reservoir and Lake Šobec, and finally Lake Bohinj in Triglav National Park, where you will ride a loop to the Savica waterfall.
