Short Description

An 8-day self-guided road bike tour from Alta Pusteria to Trieste covering 600 km across three countries. Ride through the Dolomites, Austrian Carinthia, the Slovenian Julian Alps, and the Karst coast to reach the Adriatic. From €879 per person with luggage transfer and GPS.

Tour Program

Day 1: Arrival in Alta Pusteria (Dobbiaco/Villabassa)
You will arrive at your hotel in Alta Pusteria, with free parking available nearby. The eastern Dolomites will form your first horizon.

Day 2: Alta Pusteria – Oberdrauburg/Kötschach-Mauthen (approx. 85 km; +1,200 m)
The opening kilometres from Alta Pusteria to Abfaltersbach in Austria will warm your legs for the challenging climb ahead. In the Lesach and Gail valleys, the effort will be rewarded by a magnificent rural landscape of traditions, costumes, and cultural sites. A final ascent over the Gailbergsattel and a fast descent will bring you to Oberdrauburg.

Day 3: Oberdrauburg/Kötschach-Mauthen – Feistritz an der Gail (approx. 70 km; +390 m)
Following the Gail river, you will ride south through a string of picturesque villages. Lake Pressegger, one of Austria's warmest bathing lakes, will invite a pause. For an extra challenge, the longer route passes Lake Weißensee with a steep climb and optional boat crossing. The day ends at Feistritz an der Gail, a small village devoted to sustainable tourism.

Day 4: Feistritz an der Gail – Bled (approx. 125 km; +2,200 m)
You will ride to the Italian border at Tarvisio, then climb to the Predil Pass and cross into Slovenia. A thrilling descent leads to Vršič and the Triglav National Park, where crystal-clear lakes, thundering waterfalls, and hidden gorges unfold at every turn. The day concludes at Lake Bled, whose island church and clifftop castle are reflected in emerald waters.

Day 5: Bled – Cividale del Friuli (approx. 120 km; +1,700 m)
You will leave Bled and enter the Bohinj valley, framed by the jagged ridges of the Julian Alps. The climb over the Bohinjsko Sedlo will reward you with sweeping views of the Triglav massif. A long descent into the Isonzo valley follows, through Tolmin and Kobarid, before crossing back into Italy at Cividale del Friuli.

Day 6: Cividale del Friuli – Gradisca d'Isonzo (approx. 110 km; +1,500 m)
Near Cividale, the ancient pilgrimage site of Castelmonte abbey crowns the hilltop. You will then ride through the Collio Goriziano, Italy's most celebrated wine region, rolling up and down vine-covered hills past countless estates. The day ends at Gradisca d'Isonzo, a fortress town on the Isonzo river that blends Austrian and Venetian heritage.

Day 7: Gradisca d'Isonzo – Trieste (approx. 90 km; +850 m)
A gentle sea breeze will herald the approaching Adriatic. The Karst plateau, with its white limestone cliffs and hidden caves, gives way to a spectacular coastal road through Duino, Sistiana, and Miramare — where the fairy-tale castle perches above the bay. The ride concludes in Trieste, a grand Habsburg port city whose literary cafés once inspired Joyce and Svevo.
