Short Description

A cycling loop in Brittany connecting two of France's most iconic landmarks: the walled city of Saint-Malo and the island abbey of Mont Saint-Michel. Rugged coastline, quiet bocage, medieval villages, and the world's most dramatic tides — all in seven days.

Tour Program

Day 1: Arrival in Saint-Malo
Your journey begins in Saint-Malo, the legendary city of the sea. You will wander through the narrow streets of the old walled town, fortified by Vauban, where legends of corsairs and explorers still haunt every corner. Take the time to walk the ramparts, feel the Atlantic wind, and let the spirit of this extraordinary city set the tone for the days ahead.

Day 2: Saint-Malo – Dol de Bretagne (49 km; +300 m)
You will ride along the coast, the sea stretching endlessly to your left, past the Pointe du Grouin — a dramatic headland with sweeping views across the bay. The charming port of Cancale awaits, famous throughout France for its oyster farms and its picturesque fishing harbour. From here, the route follows the seaside with Mont Saint-Michel shimmering in the distance, before turning inland through Le Vivier sur Mer to reach Dol de Bretagne, an ancient town steeped in history.

Day 3: Dol de Bretagne – Pontorson / Mont Saint-Michel (32 km; +80 m)
Today you will leave the oyster parks of Vivier sur Mer behind and ride towards one of the world’s most extraordinary sights: Mont Saint-Michel. This rocky islet has risen from the bay for over a thousand years, welcoming pilgrims and travellers to its authentic medieval streets, timber-framed houses, and the magnificent abbey at its summit. You will explore the labyrinth of walls and passages that surround the city, then follow the tranquil Couesnon Valley to your overnight stop in Pontorson.

Day 4: Pontorson – Combourg (49 km; +370 m)
This stage carries you into the heart of the Breton inland, a landscape of forests, lakes, and quiet villages. The terrain is gently rolling, punctuated by hedgerows and stone farmhouses that define the Breton bocage. Your destination is Combourg, a beautiful town dominated by its medieval fortresses overlooking the Lac Tranquille — the very setting where the writer Chateaubriand spent his formative childhood years.

Day 5: Combourg – Dinan (35 km; +250 m)
You will ride through the intimate landscape of inner Brittany, passing through villages where half-timbered houses line cobbled squares. The cycling path leads you steadily towards Dinan, one of Brittany’s best-preserved medieval cities. Encircled by ancient walls, Dinan rewards you with its timbered houses, numerous pedestrian streets, and paved routes that wind down to the old port on the Rance river below.

Day 6: Dinan – Saint-Malo (35 km; +350 m)
The final riding day follows a peaceful cycling path along the Rance canal, where locks and houseboats set a gentle rhythm. You will stop in Saint-Suliac, a fishing port regarded as one of the most beautiful villages in France, before cycling through the Rance Valley with its unique panoramic views stretching from river to sea. Your tour comes full circle as you arrive back in Saint-Malo, the fabulous cité des corsaires, its narrow streets as alive with legend as the day you first arrived.

Day 7: Departure
Your tour ends after breakfast. Departure during the day. Return to Paris is by TGV from Saint-Malo station to Paris Montparnasse (approximately 2h30).
