🙋 Common questions
How much does the Charente Islands family cycling tour cost?
This 7-day self-guided tour starts from €932 per person in a double room from mid-April to the end of May, and from €1,040 from June to September. The price includes 6 nights with breakfast, luggage transfer, the boat crossings back from the Île de Ré and the Île d'Oléron, a travel book with maps, a GPS navigation app and a 7/7 hotline. Bike rental is available at an extra cost.
Is this tour suitable for children?
Yes. It is designed for families: daily distances are short (21 to 35 km), the terrain is almost completely flat and most of the route follows cycle paths. Child seats, trailers, children's bikes and tag-along bikes can be rented, and special rates apply for babies and for children sharing a room with two adults. Ask us for the details when you request a quote.
When can I do this tour?
The tour runs from 15 April to 30 September, with arrivals on any day of the week. June to September is the higher-priced period.
How difficult is the Charente Islands cycling tour?
The tour is rated easy. You will cover about 144 km over five cycling days, with only about 235 m of total climbing. On the Île de Ré you can add an optional 20 km to explore the salt marshes.
Which islands will we visit?
You will spend a day on the Île de Ré, take a short ferry to the car-free Île d'Aix, and explore the Île d'Oléron, with views of Fort Boyard along the way.
Are the boat crossings included?
The boat crossings with bikes from Saint-Martin-de-Ré and from Boyardville back to La Rochelle are included. Their timetables depend on the tides, so on rare days the island days may be swapped within the itinerary. The return ferry to the Île d'Aix (about €25 per person and €10 per bike) and the short bus from Rochefort to Fouras are paid locally.
How does luggage transfer work?
Your luggage is moved to the next hotel on every cycling day. The allowance is one bag of up to 23 kg plus one small hand bag per person; additional bags can be transferred for an extra fee. Riders are expected to handle simple repairs such as a puncture on their own.
What accommodation is included?
You will stay six nights with breakfast in 3-star hotels (the hotel in Fouras may be a 2-star). No dinners are included, leaving you free to enjoy the local seafood and specialities.
