Short Description

Ride through southern Portugal's untamed beauty on this 7-day mountain bike journey. From the rolling Alentejo plains to the dramatic Atlantic cliffs of the Costa Vicentina, you will discover cork forests, ancient villages, and wild beaches before reaching the golden shores of Lagos. Your adventure begins with a transfer from Lisbon to the heart of the Alentejo, where quiet backroads wind through horse farms and vast cork groves. Day after day, you will pedal past hidden beaches, lonely lighthouses, and picturesque coastal towns, crossing into the Algarve as the landscape grows ever more dramatic. The route culminates in Lagos, where the famous golden rock formations of Ponta da Piedade stand guard over the historic centre.

Tour Program

Day 1: Arrival in Lisbon
You will arrive in Lisbon and settle into your hotel. The city's light, its pastel-coloured facades and riverside energy, will set the tone for the days ahead.

Day 2: Santiago do Cacém – Vila Nova de Milfontes (35 km; +400 m)
A transfer from Lisbon brings you to the Alentejo hinterland, where the real adventure begins. You will ride through a landscape of horse farms, cork producers, and the shade of vast cork forests where the famous porco preto roams beneath ancient oaks. Halfway through the stage, the coast reappears near the blue-and-white town of Porto Covo. Sandy roads lead you south along the shoreline, past the small island of Ilha do Pessegueiro, until you reach the charming town of Vila Nova de Milfontes.

Day 3: Vila Nova de Milfontes – Odeceixe (65 km; +850 m)
Paved roads take you through berry and vegetable farms to the lonely Cabo Sardão lighthouse. Huge cliffs and stunning beaches unfold before you: the sandy scenic road to Zambujeira do Mar, the beaches of Carvalhal and Azenhas do Mar — famous jewels of the Costa Vicentina. You will cross fields along quiet waterways, always with the option of taking the paved road. A bumpy descent brings you into the valley of the Seixe River, where a bridge marks the border with the Algarve.

Day 4: Odeceixe – Aljezur (39 km; +600 m)
From the village of Odeceixe, you will follow the river valley to Praia de Odeceixe, one of Portugal's most beautiful beaches. Two climbs await, then flat terrain through fields and ancient water channels until you reach the Aljezur River valley at Praia de Amoreira. The historically significant town of Aljezur greets you with the ruins of its 10th-century Moorish castle. Two tough climbs — up to the castle and then to Monte Clérigo — reward you with a quiet forest road leading through remote Algarve villages.

Day 5: Aljezur – Sagres (52 km; +670 m)
The last stage along the Costa Vicentina brings spectacular highlights. After a long descent through typical hills, you will find the coast again at Carrapateira. The circular trail atop the cliffs is one of the most breathtaking landscapes of the trip. One last steep climb and you reach Vila do Bispo, where only a few miles of sparse, windswept scrubland separate you from Cabo de São Vicente — for centuries the last promontory sighted by every explorer leaving Europe. With the wind at your back, Sagres is just twenty minutes away.

Day 6: Sagres – Lagos (40 km; +800 m)
Wind is the defining factor in Sagres. A few hundred metres on the main road and you turn onto the old road to Vila do Bispo, a town with a much more local feel than the tourist hotspot of Sagres. In the next twenty kilometres to Lagos, countless climbs and descents await. Beautiful views and hidden beaches make up for every effort. West of Lagos, the famous rock formations of Ponta da Piedade are the icing on the cake before you reach the historic centre.

Day 7: Departure from Lagos
After checking out, you can take a train to Faro airport, or request a private transfer at an extra cost.
