Egypt Nile Boat & Bike Tour

Day 1: Arrival in Hurghada – Sahl Hasheesh
You will land in Hurghada, where the local ground team handles your entry visa at the airport and drives you the short distance south to Sahl Hasheesh. The resort sits right on the Red Sea, and the rest of the day is yours. In the late afternoon there will be a welcome reception, and dinner is included.

Day 2: Sahl Hasheesh (15 km)
An easy first ride to find your legs. You will follow the beachfront promenade and the marina, with the Red Sea beside you the whole way. The remainder of the day is free at the resort.

Day 3: Sahl Hasheesh – Dendera – Luxor
No cycling today. You will travel inland by coach, stopping for a traditional lunch, and visit the Temple of Dendera. In the afternoon you will continue to Luxor and board the H/S Nebu, your home for the next seven nights. Dinner is served on board.

Day 4: Luxor East Bank (26 km)
You will ride out to the temple complex of Karnak, then take a picnic-style lunch in the farmlands. In the afternoon you will cycle on to Luxor Temple. Back on board, the evening brings a traditional dance performance.

Day 5: Luxor – Esna (51 km)
The longest day in the saddle, and one of the quietest. You will head south on small roads that run through farmland and village life along the Nile, stopping for a packed lunch in the open air. At Esna you will visit the temple and the market before returning to the H/S Nebu.

Day 6: Kom Ombo – Aswan (31 km)
The morning belongs to the riverside Temple of Kom Ombo, visited with your guide. The ship then sails to Aswan, and lunch is served on board. In the afternoon you will cycle on the West Bank to a Nubian village, visit the community school and meet the people who live there, returning across the water by traditional felucca. The evening ends with a Nubian show on board.

Day 7: Aswan – Philae (35 km)
You will start with a motorboat ride through the Aswan Nature Reserve, Elephantine Island in view. From a nearby village you will ride to the High Dam and the granite quarries, stop for a traditional Nubian lunch, and visit the island Temple of Philae before returning to the ship.

Day 8: Edfu (21 km)
The morning is spent cruising to Edfu, with lunch on board. You will then cycle to the Temple of Horus and continue to the St. Bakhamious Monastery. In the evening the ship hosts a Galabeya party, traditional dress and all.

Day 9: Luxor West Bank (46 km)
A coach will take you across to the Theban West Bank and the Valley of the Kings, where an Egyptologist will walk you through the tombs. From there you will ride to the Temple of Hatshepsut, take a local lunch overlooking the fields, and cycle on past alabaster workshops and farmland. Late in the afternoon you will return to Luxor for a festive farewell dinner on the H/S Nebu.

Day 10: Luxor – Cairo
No cycling. You will disembark early and take the included domestic flight to Cairo. After lunch you will explore the Citadel of Saladin and the Alabaster Mosque of Mohamed Ali, and catch a first glimpse of Old Cairo, before checking into the Renaissance Cairo Mirage City Hotel. Dinner is included.

Day 11: Sakkara and Coptic Cairo
No cycling. You will travel to Sakkara to see the Step Pyramid and visit traditional craft workshops. After lunch comes Coptic Cairo, its ancient churches and its synagogue. The evening is free to explore New Cairo, and dinner is at your own choice.

Day 12: Giza and the Grand Egyptian Museum
No cycling. The Giza Plateau: the Great Pyramids of Cheops, Chephren and Mykerinos, and the Sphinx, with your Egyptologist guide. You will then visit the newly opened Grand Egyptian Museum and have lunch there, more than five thousand years of history around you. A final dinner brings the group together one last time.

Day 13: Cairo – Departure
Breakfast at the hotel, then a transfer to Cairo International Airport timed to your flight.
