🙋 Common questions
When is the best time to ride the Douro Valley?
The recommended season is March to June and September to November. July and August are very hot in the Douro interior, so we strongly advise against summer departures.
What is the difficulty level?
This tour is rated Moderate. Stages range from 29 to 44 km per day with some hilly terrain, especially in the first days on the highland plateau. The total elevation gain is approximately 1,800 m across 5 riding days.
What about accommodations?
You will stay in authentic, rustic local accommodations including quintas, olive oil estates, and manor houses. Note that these are picturesque properties with restricted capacity — early booking is recommended.
Are meals included?
Yes, this tour includes daily picnic lunches and one countryside dinner at an olive oil estate in Vila Flor. Breakfast is included every morning. This is a unique feature of this tour, as the route passes through remote areas with limited restaurant options.
