Short Description

Cycle through the UNESCO-listed Douro Valley from Miranda do Douro to Porto. Ride along terraced vineyards, ancient olive groves, and the dramatic Douro River canyon on this 7-day self-guided tour through Portugal's premier wine region.

Tour Program

Day 1 — Miranda do Douro | City with history, traditions, culture and dancing
Transfer from Porto airport to Miranda do Douro at the easternmost point of the tour. Enjoy the beautiful landscape and scenery along the way. The landscape of the Douro River Canyon and its over 200-meter-high cliffs is fascinating. After you arrive, enjoy a walk around the small town of Miranda do Douro, with its typical whitewashed houses and narrow cobbled streets.

Day 2 — Miranda do Douro to Sendim | Walks through the Natural Park, visits to picturesque villages (41 km)
The first cycling stage takes you through the International Douro Nature Reserve, a gentle highland plateau known for its wilderness and landscapes. Cycle across a quiet land, populated by over 170 species of birds, wild boar and the occasional Iberian wolf. In the sky overhead, you may see a rare Golden Eagle or an Egyptian vulture. Picnic included.

Day 3 — Sendim to Torre de Moncorvo | Capital of flowering almond trees and gate to the Douro Wine Region (38 km)
Today's tour takes you along a former railway line. The eco trail runs past forests, across fields, a typical agricultural landscape, and a few scattered woods. Continue along olive and almond groves until you reach medieval Torre de Moncorvo, the Capital of the Almond Blossom Festival. You will be warmly greeted by your host at an elegant town house. Picnic included.

Day 4 — Torre de Moncorvo to Vila Flor | Hidden treasure surrounded by rural landscapes and olive trees (38 km)
Your first day cycling along the Douro River, where the views are breathtaking and the scenery magical. The descent to the river takes you along a scenic gravel road lined with almond trees. The stage passes through olive groves that produce some of the best olive oil in the world. You will be welcomed by the producer at an olive mill with a picnic lunch full of seasonal and local products. For dinner, you will be served the best of local gastronomy at a farmhouse in the Biosphere Reserve. Picnic and dinner included.

Day 5 — Vila Flor to Sabrosa | The essence of the Douro Region with its splendid scenery, vineyards and olive groves (29 km)
Your whole day will be spent with the vineyard landscape as your backdrop. The terraced vineyards, sculpted by the hands of man, have made this valley one of the richest and most authentic, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Relax on board a Rabelo boat, a symbol of the region's heritage. The 17th century house where you will spend the night is located on the hillside with a magnificent view. Picnic included. Rabelo boat cruise and transfer from Pinhao to the accommodation included.

Day 6 — Sabrosa to Peso da Regua | The International Capital of Wine and Vineyards, at the centre of the Port wine-growing region (44 km)
The last stage takes you along the back roads of the Douro Valley and then along a gentle cycle path back to the riverbank, with breathtaking views. You will arrive in Peso da Regua, the centre of the Porto wine region and the capital of the Douro district. Picnic included.
