🙋 Common questions
How difficult is cycling from Amsterdam to Maastricht?
This tour covers 40 to 53 km on each cycling day, on the flat river landscapes of the Netherlands. There is no significant climbing: the only gentle relief comes from the river dunes of Maasduinen and the approach to Limburg. A tour leader sets the pace, and e-bikes can be rented.
When is the best time to cycle along the Dutch rivers?
The season runs from spring to autumn. April and May bring long light and blossoming countryside, while September and October are quiet and warm-toned along the Meuse. Midsummer is the busiest period in Maastricht and the river towns, so shoulder-season departures are calmer both on the bike and in the cities.
How much does a boat and bike tour from Amsterdam to Maastricht cost?
Prices vary by departure date, ship and cabin type, and are shown live on this page under Availability. The price includes seven nights on board with breakfast, packed lunches, six three-course dinners, a tour leader and the entrance to museum Ceuclum in Cuijk. Bike rental costs €98 per week and an e-bike €273 per week.
Is this tour guided or self-guided?
It is fully guided. A tour leader cycles with the group every day, and daily briefings on board explain the route ahead. Some short walking tours are included as well. A BBT cycling map is provided for each cabin and GPS tracks are available.
Where do you sleep on a boat and bike tour in the Netherlands?
You sleep on board in a cabin, with bed linen and towels provided and daily cleaning. The barge moves while you cycle or in the evening, so you unpack once for the whole week and still wake up in a different river town every morning.
Do I need to bring my own bicycle?
No. A rental bicycle costs €98 per week and an e-bike €273 per week; e-bikes are on request and limited in number, so reserving at the time of booking is recommended. If you prefer your own bike, parking on board costs €14 per week, or €35 with a charging point for an e-bike.
How do I get back from Maastricht to Amsterdam?
There is a good train connection between the two cities. Timetables and tickets can be found on the usual European rail booking sites. The return journey is not included in the tour price.
Can the tour run in the opposite direction?
Yes. The same route is also operated from Maastricht to Amsterdam, with the stages reversed. Departure dates for each direction are shown under Availability.
