🙋 Common questions
How difficult is cycling through the Dutch tulip fields?
Cycling days on this tour range from 20 to 54 km on completely flat terrain, the easiest cycling country in Europe. Several stages offer a shorter and a longer option, so you can adjust the effort day by day. The tour is fully guided, and premium e-bikes are available for rent.
When is the best time to see the tulip fields in Holland?
The Dutch bulb fields flower from late March to mid-May, and this tour runs only inside that window. Mid-April is usually the peak for tulips, while daffodils and hyacinths come earlier in the season. Keukenhof itself opens for roughly eight weeks each spring.
How much does a tulip boat and bike tour in Holland cost?
Prices start from €1,689 per person and vary by departure date, ship and cabin type; live prices are shown on this page under Availability. The price covers seven nights on board with breakfast, packed lunches, six three-course dinners, guiding and entrance to Keukenhof. Bike rental costs €105 to €154 per week depending on the ship.
Is the Keukenhof visit included in this tour?
Yes, entrance to the Keukenhof gardens is included and falls on Day 2, when the route runs through the oldest bulb fields in Holland between Haarlem and Leiden. Entrance to the Aalsmeer flower auction and to the North-Holland dune reserve is included as well, along with a visit to a Dutch cheese farm.
Is this tour guided or self-guided?
It is fully guided. A tour leader rides with the group, and from eighteen guests the group is split in two with two leaders so that different paces are catered for. Daily briefings on board explain the route ahead, and a detailed cycling map and GPS app are available if you prefer to ride at your own pace.
Where do you sleep on a boat and bike tour in the Netherlands?
You sleep on board in a climate-controlled cabin, with bed linen and towels provided and daily cabin cleaning. The barge moves while you cycle, so you unpack once for the whole week and still wake up in a different Dutch town almost every morning.
Do I need to bring my own bicycle?
No. A premium hybrid bicycle can be rented from €105 to €154 per week depending on the ship, and a premium e-bike for €287 per week; e-bike numbers are limited, so reserving at the time of booking is recommended. If you prefer your own bike, parking on board costs €14 per week, or €35 with a charging point for an e-bike.
Can I skip a cycling day on this tour?
Yes. If you prefer not to cycle on a given day you can stay on board and relax while the ship cruises to the next mooring. Route distances in the programme are approximate, and the itinerary may change for nautical, technical or meteorological reasons.
