🙋 Common questions
How much does the Amsterdam to Bruges bike and barge tour cost?
Boat Bike Tours lists the Amsterdam to Bruges Relax tour from €2,099 per person, and that is the lowest departure price shown for the 2027 season. Prices vary by ship and date, running up to about €2,579 per person on the most sought-after weeks. Bicycle rental, drinks, entrance fees and tourist taxes are charged separately.
When is the best season to cycle from Amsterdam to Bruges?
Departures run from mid-May into the autumn, with Amsterdam starts and Bruges starts alternating week by week. May and June bring long daylight and vividly green polders, July and August are the warmest and busiest, and the later weeks offer softer light and quieter towpaths. The route is flat and low-lying throughout.
How difficult is the cycling between Amsterdam and Bruges?
Boat Bike Tours rates this tour difficulty level 1, the gentlest grade in its range. The Netherlands and Flanders are flat, the daily distances are moderate, and a tour leader rides with the group every day. Wind off the North Sea can make an open polder stretch feel harder, and e-bikes are available to rent.
What is the difference between the Amsterdam–Bruges and Bruges–Amsterdam itineraries?
They are not simply the same route reversed. Each direction has its own day-by-day plan, with different overnight stops and different daily distances. Sailing from Amsterdam you cycle roughly 290 km and finish with two nights in Bruges. Sailing from Bruges you cycle roughly 284 km, start with two nights in Bruges and end in Amsterdam.
Which ships sail the Amsterdam to Bruges route?
Four barges cover this route: La Mar and Flora each take a maximum of 24 passengers, with twelve and eleven cabins respectively, while Fleur and Gandalf each take a maximum of 20 passengers in ten cabins. La Mar and Fleur are classed as premium, Flora and Gandalf as comfort. Your ship depends on the departure date.
How many kilometres will I cycle between Amsterdam and Bruges?
Adding up the shorter option on every stage, the Amsterdam to Bruges direction comes to about 290 km over eleven days, including the eleven-kilometre test ride on embarkation day and the thirty-eight-kilometre polder loop from Bruges. Longer alternatives are offered on four days, so keen riders can cover considerably more than that.
Is a bicycle included on the Amsterdam to Bruges tour?
No. Bicycle and e-bike rental are charged separately by Boat Bike Tours and can be added when you book. Rental bikes are unisex, with a low frame, an upright riding position, hand brakes and at least seven gears. On Fleur only e-bikes are offered. You are also welcome to bring your own bicycle.
Where does the tour start and finish in Amsterdam and Bruges?
This direction boards in Amsterdam at the Oosterdok, close to the central station, with check-in between 1 and 2 p.m. The barge sails the same afternoon. Eleven days later you disembark in Bruges harbour by 9.30 a.m. Transfers to and from the mooring places are not included in the tour price.
