When is the best time for a gravel cycling tour in Istria?

How difficult is the Istria gravel cycling tour?
The tour is rated 3 out of 4, sporty. Stages run from about 50 to 76 km with climbs up to about 1,000 m, on roughly 58% paved roads and 41% gravel. Most tracks are non-technical, but confident handling is needed on loose or rocky surfaces, especially after rain and on Cape Kamenjak.
Which bikes can I rent for the Istria gravel tour?
A gravel bike costs €250 per tour, a standard MTB €190 and an electric MTB €300, including helmet, repair kit, pump, delivery and collection. Gravel bikes with tyres of at least 40 mm are recommended. A Standard Damage Waiver caps your liability for accidental damage at €150; a €50 Waiver Upgrade lowers it to zero.
How do I get to Muggia and back from Pula?
The nearest airports are Trieste, Pula, Ljubljana and Venice. A private transfer from Trieste Airport to Muggia costs €165 and from Ljubljana Airport €285 for 1 to 3 people. From Pula, transfers cost €395 to Trieste Airport and €460 to Ljubljana Airport. Each bike adds €10, and transfers are one way for the whole party.
Which countries does the Istria gravel tour cross?
The tour starts in Muggia in Italy, follows the Slovenian coast through Koper, Izola and Piran, and crosses into Croatia on Day 3 near the Sečovlje salt pans. From there it continues through inland and western Istria to Pula. Overnight stops are Piran, Umag, Buzet, Poreč, Rovinj and finally Pula.
Can I shorten the daily stages on the Istria gravel tour?
Yes. Every stage has a built-in shorter option, such as a direct coastal route of about 35 km on Day 2 or paved roads instead of the longer Parenzana sections on Day 4. You can also skip the Motovun climb or the Cape Kamenjak loop and finish directly in Pula on the last riding day.
