Loire Cycling From Angers to the Atlantic

Day 1: Arrival in Angers
Take time to explore the peaceful city of Angers and its imposing chateau, home to the famous Apocalypse Tapestry — one of the great medieval masterpieces of Europe.

Day 2: Angers – Le Mesnil en Vallée or Ancenis (42 km or 67 km; +245 m or +325 m)
You will pedal into the heart of the Anjou vineyards, passing through the celebrated appellations of Coteaux de la Loire and Coteaux de l'Aubance. A stop at Savennières — renowned for its dry white wines — is not to be missed. You will then ride across the Chalonne island, set in the middle of the Loire, before reaching the village of Saint Florent le Vieil or Ancenis.

Day 3: Le Mesnil en Vallée or Ancenis – Nantes (64 km or 40 km; +125 m or +95 m)
The stage follows the Loire river banks through shifting natural landscapes alive with birds and wildlife. You will enjoy a peaceful ride to Champtoceaux, perched in a magnificent setting on the boundary between Anjou and Brittany. From there, you will continue to Nantes — a vibrant city with pedestrian streets and a wealth of cultural treasures to discover.

Day 4: Nantes – St Brévin (65 km; +230 m)
You will leave the city aboard a small boat to cross the river, then rejoin the Loire à Vélo cycling path. A narrow canal guides you through quiet marshlands and countryside until the Loire estuary opens up before you at St Brévin les Pins — a seaside resort with a long sandy beach framed by dunes and pine forest.

Day 5: St Brévin – Le Croisic (bus transfer + 57 km; +180 m)
From the Loire estuary to the wild Atlantic coast. After a short bus transfer past the St Nazaire bridge, you will discover the famous salt marshes and the medieval walled town of Guérande — a classified natural park steeped in centuries of history. You will then follow the rugged coast to Le Croisic, a picturesque fishing harbour nestled on the shoreline.

Day 6: Day at leisure or excursion to Le Pouliguen and La Baule (55 km; +185 m)
Spend the day exploring the coves, beaches and rocky headlands along the coastal path of Le Croisic. Or set off on an optional excursion to Le Pouliguen and the sweeping bay of La Baule — one of the largest in Europe — where elegant villas nestle among the pine trees.
