What is the difficulty level of this tour?
The tour is rated easy. The Charente Valley is gentle and rolling with no steep climbs. Daily distances range from 25 to 55 kilometres on quiet country roads through vineyards, forests and along rivers. The optional loop to La Rochefoucauld on Day 4 is the most challenging at 55 kilometres with 450 metres of climbing.
What type of accommodation is provided?
You will stay in 3-star hotels throughout the tour, located in town centres with easy access to restaurants and shops. All rooms have private bathrooms. Breakfast is included every morning. Dinners are not included, leaving you free to discover local restaurants.
Is this a loop tour?
Yes, the tour starts and finishes in Cognac. This means you do not need to arrange separate transport for your return journey. You can arrive and depart from Cognac by train or car.
Is luggage transfer included?
Yes, your luggage is transferred between accommodations on every cycling day. Each rental bike comes equipped with a rear bag and handlebar bag for your daily essentials during the ride.
Can I visit Cognac distilleries during the tour?
Absolutely. The tour passes through several Cognac and Pineau des Charentes producing areas. In Cognac itself you can visit major houses, and along the route smaller family estates welcome cyclists for tastings. Some visits require advance booking, especially on weekends.
